The Best Living Room Paint Colors
As trends change and paint color popularity rises and falls, a few rules hold steady. People like a neutral canvas in the living area of their home. That lets them update the decor with the seasons or as their tastes shift, without having to repaint.
In recent years we’ve seen creamy neutrals, light grays and greige paint colors rise in popularity. But now there’s a shift toward more saturated and even warm colors like navy, dark green, taupe and even rust!

As we move beyond 2022, we’ll see more earthy tones like rusts, terracottas, raisins, chocolate browns and warm taupes.
But picking paint colors can be hard! I know. I shared my whole paint journey with you so you know you’re not alone.
I’ve chosen paint colors ranging from a beautiful greige to a dark and moody shade, so I hope my experience helps you along the way! I’m here to help and inspire you. It will also save you hours of standing in the paint aisle staring at swatches!

White and Cream Living Room Paint Colors
Over the past few years, neutrals have moved away from cold grays toward warmer options like Creamy (Sherwin Williams) and White Dove (Benjamin Moore).
Benjamin Moore White Dove

There are so many reasons I love Benjamin Moore White Dove! First, it feels inviting and brightens your space without overwhelming it.
It looks gorgeous in your living room or any other room in your home or office. You can pair White Dove with many other colors, such as Classic Gray, Chocolate Fondue, Flint, Cheating Heart, Silver Lake, Horizon Gray and Hale Navy. Because it’s so versatile, the list of complementary colors goes on and on!
Sherwin Williams Creamy
This true off-white cream has an LRV of 81, making it very bright! It’s not a white but a genuine cream. In south-facing rooms with warm light bulbs it can read warmer. It feels cozy and warm, never stark white!
Pair Sherwin Williams Creamy with colors like Hale Navy, Sea Salt or Tricorn Black.

Sherwin Williams Shoji White
Shoji White by Sherwin Williams is one of the most popular white paint colors! It’s the perfect blend of gray and beige, while still giving you all the brightness you need.

I used Shoji White in my office, but it would look beautiful in any living room too!
Sherwin Williams Alabaster
Sherwin Williams Alabaster White (SW 7008) is known for its soft, creamy hue and has been a favorite paint color for many years!

The best thing about Sherwin Williams Alabaster White is that its undertones are so subtle it works well in almost any setting. It’s one of the first colors I recommend to anyone searching for that elusive ideal white.
Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray
Agreeable Gray has been described by many people as “the perfect greige,” a color that strikes the ideal balance between gray and beige. Like all greiges, its base is a warm, creamy gray tint.
Like every paint color, SW Agreeable Gray will look different in each room because of the lighting. For instance, in a north-facing room the paint can appear blue-gray with less of the beige coming through.

It’s always fun to see how the same paint looks in a living room with very different decor, like this traditional living room from Our Southern Home SC.

Gray, Greige and Beige Living Room Paint Colors
Benjamin Moore Gray Owl
I couldn’t give you a list of the best living room paint colors without including one of my all-time favorites: Benjamin Moore Gray Owl! Its versatility is amazing.

It takes on several different undertones depending on your space and the accents and colors around it. It may look greenish or bluish. Often it appears as a true gray, depending on the time of day and the surroundings in your room.
You can pair Gray Owl with Cloud White, Simply White, Chantilly Lace, Burnt Ember, Peacock Blue and White Dove.
Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter
For all you greige lovers, this is one of the most popular living room colors! It’s warming and cozy. It looks lovely in large rooms, and you’ll sometimes notice a little green peeking through. You can use it to bring out earth tones, or make a room read more blue if it gets a lot of light.

The options with Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter are endless, and that’s why I love it so much. It goes with so many colors that I can’t possibly name them all.
A few of my favorite combinations with Revere Pewter are Mink, Silver Gray, Raccoon Hollow, Chelsea Gray, Winding Vines, Cloud White and Soft White. It’s one of the loveliest living room paint colors because there’s so much you can do with it.
In fact, I liked it so much that I used it in my own living room (pictured above).
Sherwin Williams Repose Gray

Whenever I think of Repose Gray, I get giddy, because it works with almost every room, style and lighting situation. It’s a lovely warm gray with green and purple undertones that shift with the light.
I find it one of the best living room paint colors because it adapts so well. It looks gorgeous with Sherwin Williams Coral Clay, Pavestone and Elder White. You won’t have any trouble giving your living room a fresh update with this fantastic color.
Benjamin Moore Classic Gray
Benjamin Moore Classic Gray is a no-fail, neutral shade. This light gray has warm undertones, so you get all the style of gray with the warmth of your favorite creamy shades. It looks best paired with fresh white trim!

Blue and Green Living Room Paint Colors
Farrow and Ball Pigeon
This beautiful, rich blue-green has an LRV of 35, which makes it fairly dark while still reflecting some light. Use it in a room with lots of windows or natural light, and I’d recommend pairing it with white trim, such as Simply White.

Benjamin Moore Smoke
Smoke by Benjamin Moore is a calming, spa-like blue-gray that doesn’t feel like a bathroom color at all. It’s a lovely hue that connects the inside of the home to the outside, since it mirrors the colors of the sky.

Smoke has an LRV of 56, so it’s a medium shade that won’t be too dark or too light.
Benjamin Moore Wythe Blue
If you’ve been craving a pop of color in your living room, this Benjamin Moore Wythe Blue might be the answer. It’s a blue-green hue that is absolutely stunning. It pairs nicely with white trim and accents, or you can go for a more dramatic look with dark wood.

I’ve used Wythe Blue in my own home because it’s truly stunning! If your living room has lots of yellow or brown tones, you’ll notice it reads more green.
Some of the best pairings with Wythe Blue are Hale Navy, Sea Salt, Agreeable Gray, Repose Gray, Gray Owl, and Revere Pewter.
Benjamin Moore Hale Navy
If you want a color that makes a striking impact in your living room, consider Benjamin Moore Hale Navy! This gorgeous shade is a great way to add an accent color without overwhelming the space. It’s also one of my very favorite blue paint colors.

Whether you use it to accent one wall or paint some furniture in Hale Navy, it’s sure to look incredible. (I’m painting my living room walls this color and will update here when I finally take photos!)
It’s surprisingly easy to find colors that go with Hale Navy, too! It suits a wide variety of design styles and is a go-to for many interior designers. It pairs beautifully with paint colors like Cloud White, Simply White, Gray Wisp, Spring Meadow, Wythe Blue, Fawn Brindle, Woodmont Cream, Hidden Oaks, Butterfield, Sea Salt and so many more.
Sherwin Williams Sea Salt
As you can imagine, Sea Salt is a beautiful way to add character to your living room. It’s a very popular color with warm undertones that looks great in bright rooms as well as darker ones. Keep in mind that it will look quite different depending on how bright the room is and which other colors you pair it with.

Some gorgeous colors that go well with Sherwin Williams Sea Salt are Stardew, Kilim Beige, Malabar, Fleur de Sel, Summit Gray, Accessible Beige and Spare White, all from Sherwin Williams.
There you have it! Several living room paint color ideas that suit any home. Choose grays, whites, blues or even light greens, or go bright depending on your taste. These are some of my very favorite colors for living rooms, and I wanted to share them with you.
