Agreeable Gray by Sherwin Williams is an extremely popular soft, warm gray. It's a lovely hue and the #1 best-selling Sherwin Williams paint color, and for good reason!!

Agreeable Gray Undertones
Numerous people have described Agreeable Gray as "the perfect greige," meaning a color that hits all the notes and balances gray and beige. Like every greige, its base is a warm, creamy gray tint (dare I say agreeable?).
Don't be fooled, though. Like any paint color, SW Agreeable Gray will look different in each room because of the lighting. For example, in a north-facing room the paint will look blue-gray with less of the beige.
In south-facing rooms or any space with plenty of natural light, the color tends to be a soft, warm gray without the green undertones that often show up in greige. Instead, you get a creamy, warm gray that feels very livable.

If you're looking for colors that work well with Agreeable Gray by Sherwin Williams, you have plenty of options. The paint is neutral enough that almost any color will work with it.
However, a few colors are known to work especially well, such as
- Incredible White
- Extra White
- Divine White
- Aloe
- Oyster Bay
If you want a totally different color that stands out in a fun way, try Sherwin Williams Coral Reef. It's a pretty coral that delivers a bright pop of color.
Rooms That Have Agreeable Gray
All the theory is nice, but let's look at real rooms with this pretty paint on the walls. As you'll notice, the color looks slightly different in each room, yet it always looks basically flawless no matter where it is.
Agreeable Gray in Bedrooms
This gorgeous nursery stopped me mid-scroll. Isn't this entire room from Honey We Are Home lovely? The top half of the wall is Agreeable Gray, as are the darker stripes on the ceiling. As you can see, the ceiling shade looks slightly more purple than the wall, but both are neutral and gorgeous. In case you're wondering, the other shade there is Divine White by Sherwin Williams.
Y'all know I can't pass up a good nursery, so here's another room showing off Agreeable Gray. This beautiful boy's nursery from Living Letter Home has a perfect neutral backdrop in the wall paint. See how creamy gray it is across most of the wall? Once it reaches the corner with less light, it becomes a more blue-purple gray, similar to the room above.
Agreeable Gray in the Living Room
The living room is always a busy space in any house. That's why I think it's especially important to set a peaceful tone by covering your walls in a color like Agreeable Gray, as Our Vintage Nest did in this living room.
It's also fun to see how the same paint looks in a living room with very different decor, like this traditional living room from Our Southern Home SC. As in every other example, Agreeable Gray looks great here and works perfectly with the surrounding style.
Let's do one more living room example so you can compare the color in this room from Houseful of Handmade with the others above. This room gets really pretty natural light, which brings out the creamy greige look the paint is famous for.
Agreeable Gray in the Dining Room
If you're looking for another room that would look great with a couple of coats of Agreeable Gray, try the dining room. It works with any style, but I'm especially fond of this farmhouse-style dining room from Green With Decor.

Tips for Painting a Room Yourself
I've gathered some of the best tools for painting a room yourself. First, check out my post: Painting a Room in 5 Easy Steps. These are the top tools I use when painting my own rooms, which is how they get painted 95% of the time!
- Paint brush – These are a bit pricier than basic brushes, but they're worth it! I've used these for more than a decade. If you wash them thoroughly after each use, they'll last for years.
- Painter's tape – an absolute must for taping off edges. Unless you have a steady hand, you'll want to tape off every edge.
- Drop cloths – a must if you don't already have some lying around the house.
- Paint cup – Sure, you could use any old cup, but I've come to swear by this one. The magnetic piece holds your brush neatly in place when you take a break. And it fits my hand perfectly, so it doesn't cramp me.
- Roller tray – This is the only paint tray I'll ever use again. The magnetic piece is great for holding the roller in place. The liners are a luxury, but I won't paint without them because they make cleanup a breeze!
