This farmhouse Christmas tree is dressed in neutral ornaments and navy ribbons for a fresh Navy & Green theme. I think you are going to love it!

Hi friends! This little post has been sitting in my drafts for ages, and I am thrilled it is finally ready to share. I am really late getting it to you because …
- At the start of the season I was completely unmotivated to decorate this tree. I had no interest in going out to buy a pile of new decor, and I really loved what I put up last year. So I reused most of the same pieces and added just a few new things: the “Merry Christmas” sign, a new tree collar, a tree skirt and navy velvet ribbon.
- In the past I have wrapped some boxes in brand new paper and put fake presents under the tree. This year I didn’t want to spend time or paper on fake presents. Instead, I waited to shop during Black Friday and Cyber Monday, then waited for my gifts to arrive and wrapped them in paper we already had from past years. I did grab a couple of new rolls, but I am happy to say my gift wrapping organizer will be less full at the end of the season than when we started.
Overall, choosing to use what I already had and wrapping my real presents in paper I owned makes this my favorite tree ever.

And since you are probably done decorating, you can save this idea for next year. For example, pin it to a Pinterest board full of Christmas inspiration and check back next year when you need ideas!
For the past few years I have wanted a basket tree stand, but I have used other things, like a galvanized tree collar last year and my DIY crate before that.

So this year, when I spotted a cute basket tree collar on sale over Cyber Monday, I grabbed it! I love it, but it seemed to need a little something extra, so I layered my new navy tree skirt underneath. I love the layered look!
I added some navy to the tree this year with a plaid navy ribbon I bought a few years ago (sadly it is no longer available, but I found some similar ones here) and new navy velvet ribbon from Michael’s. I think velvet is a hot trend this year, and I hope it sticks around next year because I really love it!

I used only ornaments I already owned, like these DIY Christmas sign ornaments I made last year. Everything else has been collected over time. I absolutely love the large distressed wood and white ornaments I picked up at Kirkland’s last year. I didn’t see them again this season, but Kirkland’s always has my favorite selection of Christmas ornaments!

I shared my tree decorating process on Instagram stories {click here}. If you can’t see those, I will do my best to turn the clips into a video so you can watch it right here.
The cotton stems and lamb’s ear picks are from last year’s tree, too! I love how they fill in any bare spots, and the cotton stems look like snow.

Oh, and I almost forgot! Last year I put a sign on the front top of my tree, and I thought it was so cute. This year I swapped it for this “Merry Christmas” sign from Hobby Lobby. (I couldn’t find a link online, but they have tons of signs that would look adorable on a tree!)

For the gifts, I used this new green and white wrapping paper from Sugar Paper LA at Target. In my opinion, they make some of the best wrapping paper around. It is thick (not see-through) and has classic designs that pair beautifully with embellishments or pretty gift tags.

My other favorite place to buy wrapping paper is here. I love the Holly & Vine wrapping paper, the Watercolor gingham wrapping paper and the Wallflower wrapping paper.

One of my best tips for adding embellishments to gifts is to use old decor or ornaments you no longer use. The green “wreaths” are plastic garland from the Target Dollar Spot, and I tied them on with burlap ribbon. I also used old chalkboard wood slice ornaments that I made a few years ago. You can buy wood slices here and make your own. They are such a cute addition to the presents!
It was so much fun to finally finish my big tree this year, and I really love it! I am always a navy girl at heart, so decorating with navy makes my heart sing every time!
