Woven Tree Collars

A woven Christmas tree collar brings a warm, relaxed feel that suits coastal, transitional and traditional rooms. I've bought quite a few tree collars, and the woven one is hands down my favorite.

Before retailers caught on, homeowners started this trend by setting their trees in baskets. But baskets were hard to find in the right size, and trees kept tipping over. Thankfully, stores began making woven collars that copy the look of a real basket without the hassle!

These metal collars suit every style from farmhouse to classic! The galvanized one looks more rustic farmhouse, while the brass and silver ones feel glam or traditional. The red metal one would look stunning in a classic home full of red and green.

What Size Tree Collar Do I Need?

Measure the diameter of your tree base before ordering to make sure the collar will fit. Most collars run about 21″ to 27″ across and 9″ to 11″ tall. They're made to suit most trees, typically up to about 7.5 feet. Always double-check first!

If your tree base is wider than the collar, you can buy a smaller base or swap in one you already own. That's what I've done in the past!

Proportion Tip: The collar should be about the same diameter as the middle of your tree. That keeps it looking balanced, neither too big nor too small!

How to Fit a Tree Collar on the Tree

Many tree collars are one piece and must be slipped over the tree stand before you assemble the rest of the tree. Others have a hinged design that opens to wrap around the base once the tree is up.

Hinged collars can often be stored flat, which is handy if storage space is tight.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use a real tree with a tree collar?

Absolutely! Christmas tree collars work for both real and artificial trees. Bonus: they keep pets (and kids!) from drinking the water under the tree.

What's the difference between a Christmas Tree Collar and a Tree Skirt?

A collar beats a skirt in many ways. You don't have to flatten it or work out the wrinkles. Collars can also discourage pets from messing with the base or climbing the tree! (I've been known to put a collar over a tree skirt, so it's a totally personal choice.)

What Is a Christmas Tree Collar?

A Christmas tree collar is simply a structured woven, metal or wooden cover for the base of your tree. Tree skirts have been the go-to base cover for decades, but tree collars have grown in popularity over the past few years.

It's been fun to see all the collar designs retailers have released in the past few years. They're also sized to cover most tree stands, which makes them an easy finishing touch for your Christmas tree.

Just as ornaments and other decorations reflect your personal style, you're sure to find a tree collar that expresses yours too!

They're so cute and popular that they sell out early every season, and I didn't want you to miss them this year! I usually suggest waiting for a big sale weekend or holiday before large purchases, but with tree collars, grab them while they're still in stock!
