Got a dog but don't want your place to feel like a kennel? These attractive, practical crate furniture ideas keep your furry friend cozy without taking over your decor.

First things first: last year we finally welcomed a puppy! After six years of begging, pleading and hoping, my girls got their wish. My oldest daughter and I are both allergic to dogs, so finding a hypoallergenic breed was essential. We'd been ready for a dog for ages, but our allergies hadn't been.

After plenty of research, we chose a Cavapoo, a mix of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a poodle. We named her Winnie. An even bigger bonus: as a second-generation Cavapoo, she's more hypoallergenic than a first-generation one.

Either way, she's adorable, we adore her, and she fits into our family perfectly!

Allergies aside, my biggest hesitation about getting a dog was all the, well... unsightly stuff that comes with one. I mean the bulky crates, scattered toys, smelly leashes, water and food bowls, clunky playpens and more.

Not everything can be beautiful, but I've found some great items that work well and look good too. For now I'll begin with crates, and I'll tackle other items later on.

The Crate We Chose for Our Dog

I always knew we'd crate her at night. Because of the allergies, she can't share our bed, so I figured the laundry room would make a perfect bedroom for her.

My only hesitation was that I had *just* finished my laundry room makeover so it would look good from the kitchen. I didn't want an unsightly crate ruining that view. I could have built a piece of furniture to hide it, but in the end I found what I think is the perfect solution.

This Revol Diggs crate really offers the best of both worlds! It looks stylish and is arguably the most functional crate on the market!

A few of the biggest selling points for me were:

  • Easy to collapse (a few clicks and twists and it folds flat)
  • Simple to move around thanks to wheels and a handle
  • Great for puppies – We used the included puppy divider when we brought Winnie home, and she never had a single accident in the crate. She has slept in it every night since arriving and LOVES it.
  • Simple cleanup with a removable tray and vented floor – if an accident happens, it's easy to tidy up. Just pull out the tray and rinse it off!
  • Several ways in through top flaps and side doors.
  • Easy-shut latch door

I could keep going, honestly. It's such a practical part of our home, and I love how the white crate and gray pad blend in with my new laundry room floors and walls. It makes me so happy!

I honestly didn't mean for this to become a dog crate review! It isn't sponsored in any way; I paid for my crate myself. I just love it so much!!

Things to Weigh About Dog Crate Furniture, Sizes & Styles

Plenty of factors go into choosing the right crate and crate furniture for your dog and home. Start by considering your dog's size, temperament and how much room they'll need inside.

A good rule of thumb is to leave just enough room for them to stand with a few inches above their head. For length, add at least six inches to your dog's body length as the minimum. When resting, they should be able to stretch out. Some crates include dividers so the space can grow along with your pup.

Next, think about how often and when your pup will use the crate. Some dogs only need it overnight. Others have to be crated while their owners are at work. And curious, chewing, potty-training puppies may need extra supervision and care.

Once you know how the crate needs to fit your dog and meet their needs, you can pick the room that suits it best. Since no single answer fits every lifestyle, dog and layout, I'll show you some of the nicest options no matter where you put it. I'll also share where we ended up placing our dog's crate at the end!

Top Dog Crate Furniture Ideas for a Stylish Look

Let's get right to it. Here are some of the finest dog crate furniture ideas, from crate covers to large, luxurious kennel credenzas.

Crate Covers for Dogs

Simply covering it up may sound too basic, but that's exactly what crate covers are made for. They're especially useful for dogs who sleep in their crates, because using one every night builds a routine that signals bedtime and wake-up time, much like drawing our curtains does for us.

Every option here uses breathable fabric for good airflow, with flaps that roll up to open the view.

Molly Mutt promises to take your crate from eyesore to adorable with covers in dozens of prints, all designed by founder Molly herself. The print here is "forever young," though there are many more to choose from! You can also buy crate pads, bumpers and inserts in matching prints, or bundle them to save. Embroidery and custom sizing are available too.

3. Jax And Bones Crate Covers & Cover Sets

Jax & Bone's Crate Cover Set in bone color

Jax & Bone's crate cover sets come in lovely neutral shades that suit almost any home. The website offers even more colors, so you can match your room's palette. You can buy the covers alone, but the sets add a padded system that makes the space extra cozy. Monogramming is free here!

Hot Tip: If you go this route just to match a cover to your décor, pick a heavy-duty crate with lockable wheels and a removable tray. That makes it much easier to shift the crate when guests arrive. For your dog's sake, never move the crate with your pup inside, and avoid rearranging their "home" too often.

Attractive Dog Crate Tables

Stepping things up a notch, here are some decorative dog crate tables. They're a good fit if you live in a small home, condo or apartment and don't have space for a separate crate.

Most of these fit where you'd put an end table, so they suit small to medium dogs best. As with everything here, check the product details to make sure you get the right size and weight capacity.

4. Bromborough Corner Dog Crate Furniture by Archie & Oscar

This corner crate from Archie & Oscar is a favorite, sold through Wayfair in two colors. It's shown angled into the corner, but if your sofa is deep enough, you could line it up along one side to act as an end table.

5. Monique-Style Dog Crate End Table

Here's another from Archie & Oscar with a sleeker, more modern look, if that fits your living room better. These tables would also work well as nightstands. They look very similar to a far pricier brand but cost a fraction of the price. Wayfair reviewers are happy with them, and a cushioned pad is included. Again, these are best for small to medium dogs that aren't prone to crate-chewing.

6. Minimalist Side Table Crate by Fable

If you'd like to splurge on something a bit nicer and have a larger or more energetic dog, consider the modern Fable side table crate. This minimalist design comes in several sizes, including a large one for dogs over 50 pounds.

The table-crate is so sturdily built that it can support up to 300 pounds on top, so it's extremely heavy-duty. Its streamlined design is honestly beautiful if you love a modern style.

7. Wooden End-Table Crate from Orvis

Built entirely from wood, this Orvis end-table crate looks more like a regular side table than a crate. The kennel shown here is brown, though it also comes in white. The door swings open and stays put with a side stopper, so your dog can come and go easily. It also has a removable plastic insert for simple cleaning.

Dog Crate Credenzas & Double Crate Pieces

The earlier covers and tables are meant to blend in, but with a couple of dogs (or one very large one), the crate almost has to become a statement piece.

So the question becomes what kind of statement you want to make. If you're ready to go all out with large crate furniture, here are a couple of ideas, plus a resource if you'd rather build one yourself.

8. Bullwell Dog Crate Furniture for Large Dogs or a Double Kennel

This credenza-style piece from Archie & Oscar comes in two colors and has a removable divider that can house two small dogs or one large pup. The shelves offer extra storage, and the top can display everyday decor. It would look good beside a sofa, along the wall of a wide entryway, or tucked into a bedroom.

9. Small Wooden Dog Crate with a Sliding Door

While browsing the crate covers from Lords and Labradors, I came across this gorgeous side table with sliding doors for small to medium breeds. It also has an end door for easy access. It comes in gray and white, so it suits just about any decor.

11. DIY With Plans From Dog & Crate Company

Dog & Crate of New Braunfels, TX makes some truly beautiful handmade pieces, but shipping can be pricey unless you live nearby. Thankfully, they sell several styles of DIY wooden crate plans if you're up for a project. Each set includes printed plans and a detailed video tutorial.

You could also look locally for makers who build crates to order or turn vintage finds into pet kennels.

Final Thoughts

There are so many options and price points for dressing up a dog crate that it can feel overwhelming. If you've tried any of these products or others, I'd love to hear what worked (or didn't) in your space. With so many choices, there's no need to settle for a plain crate that spoils the look of a room.
