These simple Christmas bedroom decor ideas are a wonderful way to bring cozy sparkle into your home this holiday season. Waking up to the glow of a Christmas tree or the cheer of plaid bedding can bring so much joy every morning!
I had never decorated our bedrooms for Christmas before we moved into this house, but when 2020 arrived we simply craved the warmth of those twinkle lights, you know?! I'm SO glad I took the time to decorate them!

I still love the cozy look throughout our home, and I will definitely be decorating these rooms every year!
I love writing about everything Christmas decor! I've covered the best artificial Christmas trees, how to hang wreaths on kitchen cabinets and how to decorate with Christmas ribbon. I hope these posts help you create a home you love for the holidays!

Christmas Decor in the Master Bedroom
Before we get going, a few tips: you don't need to go overboard to fill the bedroom with holiday spirit. And if you just want a winter look, a chunky throw blanket and a cozy candle go a long way!
- Balance. I like to balance my little bursts of holiday decor by placing one red item on each nightstand. A few sprigs of greenery and a touch of red in a frame or a bowl of ornaments make a perfect pairing.
- Ribbon. Tie the room together by repeating the same ribbon in several spots. Try hanging wreaths from the armoire doors or tying a bow onto a lamp or bedpost.
- Lights. If nothing else, a small tree with twinkle lights, or simply draping Christmas lights over the dresser or bed frame, goes a long way. Put them on a smart plug with a timer and you'll have holiday glow without any extra effort!
Here is more inspiration to add some holiday joy to the bedroom of your choice! It's so easy and fun!
1. Add a Tree
The obvious first choice is a Christmas tree in the bedroom. It can be a simple tree with no decorations, a "naked" tree, which feels just right for a bedroom. Or add some simple bows or garland. Or go all out with ornaments, ribbon and the whole shebang.
I've had a small flocked tree in our primary bedroom for the past 7 years. I made this simple DIY tree basket, and it's the perfect way to keep the tree's footprint small.

The tree in here is a simple, naked flocked tree that I bought for the living room in our last home. But since these ceilings are taller and we have more room in the bedroom now, it fits perfectly in here!
I also added a group of mini trees to the room to carry the look through winter.
2. Switch to Christmas Bedding
Years ago, if you had asked me whether I'd have Christmas bedding, I would have said absolutely not. Then I spotted this tartan plaid duvet cover and was sold!
It's really just one duvet cover and two pillow shams. The rest of the bedding stays the same all year. But it's the star of the show and completely changes the mood of the bedroom.

Stewart Plaid Bedding | Pickstitch Quilt in Ivory | Rug | Flocked Tree | Nightstands | Lamp | Pano Pines Art | Brass Curtain Rods & Rings | Linen Curtains | Bamboo Blinds in Jute Wheat (my review here) | Clock | Wall Paint Color: Revere Pewter
Back in 2020, I decided to buy this bedding well into the Christmas season. As we all know, the most popular holiday decor sells out fast. I managed to grab the king duvet cover and one sham, but no second sham was in stock anywhere.
Eventually I found one sham at a store a couple of hours north of me. So one day I dropped my kids off at school and drove up to get it. I was back about 20 minutes before they got home from school!! The things we do for decor sometimes.

But I LOVE how it looks, and I'm so glad I went the extra mile to make it happen! I usually leave it up until February because I love it so much!
3. Add Seasonal Art and Frames
The Petite Pano Pines art over the bed is something I've owned for a few years. I swap it with my other art over the bed at Christmas, and it's the perfect winter touch that stays up until March. It's also 20% off as I write this, plus free shipping!

I like to mix in a few seasonal frames as well for a pop of color and a homey feel.

The new bedside tables are one of my favorite purchases this year. I love the tray detail on top that keeps things contained. The drawers are much bigger than they look, and I love having a bottom shelf to decorate. The size suits the room better than our old nightstand. I'm so pleased with them!

Here's how I try to keep the bedside tables clutter-free!
4. Pillows, Galore!
Pillows make a bedroom, right? So it just makes sense to add some seasonal throw pillows to the bed. In the past I put a "Let's Mistletoe" pillow on the bed, which is perfect for a primary bedroom!
This year I moved the mistletoe pillow onto a chair in our sitting area, and I added a few more seasonal pillows to make the space feel cute.

Since I shared our sitting area in the bedroom, we've picked up a new-to-us sofa. We bought it from a neighbor for $200 at our community yard sale!
I figured it would be a placeholder until we found a sofa or chair combo we liked better. But I'm here to tell you we love it! It may not be something I would have picked out, but it's comfortable, beautiful and we use it all the time! So I think I'll add a few more touches to that space and call it done soon!

5. Greenery Is So Easy!
I love how simple it is to add greenery to a space, and right away it feels like Christmas!

I've hung Christmas wreaths on the armoire before, but this is the first year I added garland to the headboard, tied with this simple red plaid bow.

To tie it into the rest of the room, I added some cedar stems to the top of the mirror. I simply wired them together with floral wire and wrapped the middle with ribbon. Simple and so fun!

I hope you enjoyed my Christmas bedroom tour of my primary bedroom, and that it inspires you to decorate the spaces in your home! It doesn't have to be anything crazy, just whatever makes your season bright and full of holiday cheer! Merry Christmas!
Christmas Room Decor for the Girls' Room
I also decorate my kids' bedrooms with smaller trees and a few touches.
A few years ago, when we moved in right before Christmas, I knew I'd put a tree up in the girls' room this year. So I hunted for ornaments during the after-Christmas sales and found some I loved.

Christmas Tree | Box of Blush Ornaments | Burlap Ruffled Tree Skirt | Gold Ribbon | Star Topper | Dresser (similar) | Wall Color: Pink Ground
Then when it was time to decorate, I needed more ornaments and found a whole ornament set (similar) that was PERFECT for their room and their tree. I used an old tree I'd had for years and an old tree skirt. It's all so perfectly pink for their room.

They love it, and they love taking the doll ornaments off to play with them. It's such a cute ornament set, and I'm so glad I got it instead of piecing together a bunch of different ornaments.
The only two things I added to the tree besides the ornament set are the gold ribbon and the star topper. A little extra glittery gold is perfect for two little girls I know.
Now that the girls don't share a room, it's my older daughter's room. But we still use the same tree and the same decorations every year. She loves them!

I hope these Christmas bedroom ideas inspire you to add festive touches to your bedrooms. And I hope they show you that you don't need much to make a room feel ready for the holidays!
