These Christmas color palettes step away from the classic red, white and green of past years. Try these holiday hues this season for a modern, playful spin on a timeless Christmas.
Christmas is just around the corner, and it's time to start planning your holiday decorating for this year. I like to choose a color scheme each year, then pick out wrapping paper and tree ribbon to match that first decision.
You'll always spot a few touches of red in my decor, but honestly it isn't my favorite color. So I look for ways to decorate without the traditional palette. This year I'm happy to share my favorite Christmas home trends that aren't red.

Don't get me wrong: red has its place. It's a very classic choice for holiday colors and has been a staple in homes and offices for years. Still, it isn't typically my style or go-to in my decor. (Though in recent years red has made a comeback in my traditional Christmas decor!)
I finally brought red in as a main Christmas color scheme into my decor in 2023, but it still wasn't my favorite, so this year I'm switching back to a non-traditional palette.

So if red isn't your go-to for the holidays, grab your favorite pajamas, a mug of hot chocolate and your favorite holiday playlist while you scroll through these lovely Christmas color palettes. The most wonderful time of the year is almost here!

Christmas Color Schemes Without Classic Red
There are plenty of reasons to pick colors other than red and green for your holiday decor, but my top reason is that they are GORGEOUS and deserve some attention too.
These modern holiday colors bring warmth and calm to your space, and your home will feel even more relaxing through the holidays. Here are some ideas to get you inspired.
Wintery Blues
My favorite Christmas decor I've ever done was a blue and white Christmas color palette with gold and brass mixed in for good measure. This non-traditional color theme suits classic homes where bright reds don't often appear.

I'm planning to bring this color scheme back this year with a few new additions. I can't wait to show you soon!
Copper and Blush
This gorgeous mix of copper, white and blush is one of the most beautiful modern Christmas color schemes! Ashley at Modern Glam layered in all sorts of textures and elements to create this stunning room.
With the vaulted ceilings and plenty of room, she picked two Christmas trees that are big enough to fill the space. The soft pillows with billowy texture add charm and tie the color scheme together.
Blush and copper repeat throughout the room and look lovely against the shiplap wall. I adore the large chalkboard that serves as the focal point on the mantel. Even the packages under the tree are carefully arranged in this immaculate decorating style.
The Allure Of Winter Whites
Winter white is a versatile, elegant choice that captures the purity and calm of the season. Using white as the main color in your holiday decor creates a blank canvas that lets other elements shine, for a sophisticated yet festive feel.

The icy blue walls of Kelley Nan's home made the perfect backdrop for embracing winter whites at Christmas! The two white trees were ideal for showing off white ornaments, icy ribbons and simple white twigs.
I love how she kept the rest of the room simple, with hurricane vases and candles on the table and minimal wintry decor on the sideboard. That let the twin trees shine with their elegance and snowy decor!
Black And White With Gold Accents
Black and white may not seem like a go-to Christmas color scheme, but this classic pairing really works! Both colors in this palette are neutral enough to blend into any space.
In this room by Just Destiny, your eye goes straight to the black and white ribbon on this lovely tree. Black, white, gold and silver ornaments give the tree a fresh, rich look. With the hints of gold added in, the room feels luxurious and majestic.
Everything in this room feels welcoming and classic. My favorite part of the look is all the white frosted greenery throughout the space. It adds a touch of sophistication without going overboard.
Jewel Tones for a Luxurious Look
For anyone who loves a bit of drama and sophistication, jewel tones are a fantastic choice. Rich hues like emerald, sapphire, burgundy and amethyst can give your holiday decor an opulent touch and create a luxurious mood that will impress your guests.

It's unexpected, yet completely festive! Use any mix of jewel tones for Christmas and it's sure to look beautiful, from magenta to bright teal, emerald green and sunshiny yellow. I love how Michael at Inspired by Charm created an almost monochromatic jewel-toned tree by sticking to a mostly blue and green palette.
Greenery & Pops Of Color
Who would have guessed bright orange could work as a holiday color? Paired with eucalyptus garlands, these bright oranges give a perfect contrast. The white fireplace feels warm and inviting and makes the ideal backdrop for this beautiful handmade garland.
As you can see in this photo, Eden at Sugar and Charm skipped the traditional reds and chose a more modern look. It's a win!
Bringing nature into your decorating is a lovely way to add charm to your space. Anything from nature feels more welcoming, whether it's pinecones, leaves or, yes, oranges.
Playful Pink for a Whimsical Twist
If you're drawn to lighter, more playful colors, pastels can bring a whimsical touch to your holiday decor. Soft pinks, blues and mint greens create cheerful, airy color combinations that fill your space with joy and lightheartedness.
These pretty large pink flowers are layered with gold ribbon, ornaments and pine cones for a striking feminine design.
The colors are subtle, but they make a big impact on the overall look and feel of the tree. Don't be afraid to mix in more than simple ornaments. Different textures catch the eye, as Linda at Craftaholics Anonymous shows on this tree.
Adding white or amber lights gives the tree an enchanting glow without feeling overwhelming. The look is charming, and you won't want to leave the room any time soon.

I went pink in my office Christmas decor and I LOVE it! I'll be repeating this color scheme again and again!
Try Blue and Silver Christmas Decorations
If you're looking for classic Christmas colors that aren't red and green, blue and silver decorations might be just the thing to reach for this year.
Debbie at Refresh Restyle tastefully added touches of light blue to her beautiful tree. She leaned into the rustic feel of her living room and boosted it with extra silver pieces around the room.
I hope the rooms above show you how vast the Christmas color palette can be this holiday season. There is so much you can do with your decor this year, no red required. Try new things and see how gorgeous the results can be!
Final Thoughts
Whether you lean toward elegant winter whites, vibrant jewel tones or playful pastels, there's a palette to suit every taste and style. By experimenting with colors that speak to you, you can create a personal, memorable holiday decor that delights you and your guests.
Remember, the key is to have fun and express your own style. Your home reflects who you are, so don't be afraid to think outside the box and try something new. Happy decorating!
