Best No-Fail Greige Paint Colors For Your Home

Whether you want a relaxed backdrop or a touch of elegance, you'll love something on this list of the best greige paint colors.

Best Greige Paint Colors

Few colors are as versatile as greige. Whether you want a relaxed backdrop or a touch of elegance, this list of the best greige paint colors has something for everyone.

Have you ever stared at beige and gray paint samples, unable to pick between them? That's exactly why greige paint colors were born.

Greige combines two of the most popular neutral color families. Now you can have your cake and eat it too, or rather your beige and gray in one!

Gone are the builder-grade beiges of the 1990s and the cold grays of the 2000s. In their place are colors that feel more modern, endlessly versatile, and beautifully sophisticated.

Best Greige Paint Colors

Since greige blends beige and gray, there are dozens of variations on the market. Some lean more beige, while others look a little grayer. Choosing just one color from the sea of possibilities can be... challenging.

Don't worry, I'll make the decision easier by weeding out everything except the best and most popular greige options on the market. We're going for no-fail greiges here! Let's dive right in.

PRO Tip

Whenever you pick a new paint color, test the real paint color in your home first!

The fastest, easiest way to do that is with Samplize! I use them exclusively for paint samples now. There's no mess and no leftover sample pots. Plus, these peel-and-stick rectangles are made from real paint, so they're easy to move around the room and save for later.

Undertones You Can Find in Greige Paint Colors

Undertones are the subtle differences you notice in colors that set one shade apart from another. For example, the hint of brown you can see in a particular greige is an undertone.

Greige paint colors are endlessly versatile because they can show a wide range of undertones. Warm-leaning greiges can reveal pink, red, or yellow undertones. Cool-leaning greiges show purple, blue, or green undertones.

Edgecomb Gray is one of my favorite greige paint colors.

As with white paint, lighting and nearby decor can shift the undertones in greige and make it read differently in different settings. Test any colors you like with large paint swatches before you buy, so you can check those undertones before committing!

In north-facing rooms, cool light brings out a color's cool undertones, and colors often look darker. South-facing rooms get bright, warm light all day, which pulls out warm undertones and can make shades look washed out.

Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray

I'm kicking off this list with a bang! Agreeable Gray (SW 7029) is one of the most popular greige paint colors on the market because it stays neutral while still being versatile.

With an LRV of 60, it lands in that ideal "Goldilocks" range. It has enough saturation without looking too dark in low-light rooms or washing out in bright ones. It's also versatile enough that this soft, warm neutral shifts toward gray or beige depending on the light.

I recommend pairing Agreeable Gray with Snowbound (SW 7004), Pure White (SW 7005), Sea Salt (SW 6204), or Alabaster (SW 7008).

Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray

Edgecomb Gray (HC-173) is a warm, earthy, and versatile greige that's comparable to Agreeable Gray. Since it leans more beige, you could say Agreeable Gray is the most popular gray-leaning greige, while Edgecomb Gray is one of the most popular beige-leaning greiges.

With an LRV of 63.88 and neutral gray-green undertones, this crowd-pleasing rich shade reads soft and appealing. I recommend pairing it with Kendall Charcoal (HC-166), White Dove (OC-17), or Hale Navy (HC-154).

I love the warmth Edgecomb Gray brings to our kitchen! Its neutral nature bridges the gap between warm wood tones and cool dark accents with ease.

Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige

Accessible Beige (SW 7036) is another hugely popular greige from Sherwin Williams. Although the name may call builder beiges to mind, this beige-leaning greige is far more complex and beautiful.

It has an LRV of 58 and shifts between gray and beige depending on the lighting. I recommend pairing it with Alabaster (SW 7008), Greek Villa, Sea Salt (SW 6204), or Dovetail (SW 7018).

Sherwin Williams Mindful Gray

Mindful Gray (SW 7016) sits right in the middle of the scale with an LRV of 48, making it one of the darker shades on this list. As a warm, gray-leaning greige, it's a deeper, richer version of Agreeable Gray and pairs well with both warm and cool palettes.

I recommend pairing it with Snowbound (SW 7004), Naval (SW 6244), or Pure White (SW 7005).

I love this living room from Thistlewood Farms! It shows off Mindful Gray beautifully and reveals how soft and light it often reads.

Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter

Revere Pewter (HC-172) is a greige that has stood the test of time. With an LRV of 55.51 and warm undertones, it has plenty of saturation and is versatile enough for almost any room. It adds an earthy, rustic vibe, so it's ideal for farmhouse (and many other) style homes.

I recommend pairing Revere Pewter with White Dove (OC-17), Chelsea Gray (HC-168), or Hale Navy (HC-154).

I love how it looks in our previous living room!

Benjamin Moore Pale Oak

Pale Oak (OC-20) isn't as popular as some of the other greiges on this list, but I think it's underrated. With an LRV of 70 and mild yellow and pink undertones, this lovely soft greige can wash out in very bright rooms, yet it has enough depth to contrast with white.

I recommend pairing it with Chantilly Lace (OC-65), Healing Aloe (1562), White Dove (OC-17), or Hale Navy (HC-154).

I love this entryway from A Thoughtful Place! Pale Oak reads light and neutral and keeps the space feeling airy and welcoming.

Benjamin Moore Balboa Mist

Here's another popular greige that has been around for a while and has gained even more popularity over the last ten years or so. Balboa Mist (OC-27) is slightly warmer and darker than Pale Oak, which gives it more depth. With an LRV of 67, it's a light greige with mild purple undertones that lend a neutral softness that looks great in many homes.

I recommend pairing it with Pure White (SW 7005), White Dove (OC-17), or Hale Navy (HC-154).

Turn your open kitchen into a showstopper with Balboa Mist, just as Housekeeping Bay did with warm wood tones.

Sherwin Williams Repose Gray

Repose Gray (SW 7015) has an LRV of 58, which makes it slightly lighter than Mindful Gray with similar undertones. Repose Gray is one of the best greige paint colors because its gray base blends with brown and subtle purple undertones, which make it read soft, inviting, and neutral. It works wonderfully with any decor style.

I recommend pairing it with Pure White (SW 7005), Sea Salt (SW 6204), or Simply White (OC-117).

I love the lovely neutral backdrop Repose Gray creates in this swoon-worthy bedroom from Designing Vibes!

Benjamin Moore Classic Gray

Don't let the name fool you. Classic Gray (OC-23) may sound like a true gray, but it isn't. It's one of my favorite versatile, timeless greiges because it's a no-fail warm shade with subtle green undertones that add depth. With an LRV of 74.78, you'll likely notice it washing out in bright light, but it's a dream in low-light rooms.

I recommend pairing it with Balboa Mist (OC-27), White Dove (OC-17), or Simply White (OC-117).

Classic Gray looks lovely in this bedroom from Studio McGee. The color reads nearly white but still feels soft and inviting.
