I recently noticed that I felt stuck while updating our new home. I wasn't sure which projects to take on next.
I have *almost* finished my office makeover and my living room makeover, but I had no goals beyond those two rooms. Then it hit me that I'd forgotten to write new home goals at the start of April! (Read the home goals I wrote back in January HERE.)
This year I tried something different: instead of writing home goals for the whole year all at once, I'd set goals for each quarter. With the current national crisis, I had completely missed the deadline (April 1)!
So I sat down this weekend to revisit the goals I'd made in January and set some new home improvement goals for this quarter.
First, let's see how I did with my January goals:
1. Paint! Paint, paint and even more paint!!
- The kitchen, entryway, hallways, butler's pantry, hall closet alcove, stairwell, upstairs loft and upstairs hallway are all connected and will be painted the same color, so I want them all done ASAP. All of these were painted Edgecomb Gray, and I've grown to love it!
- The dining room. Painted Kendall Charcoal, and I'm obsessed!
- My office. Painted Shoji White and another color I'm obsessed with!
- Maybe the living room. I painted it and I'm nearly done decorating the room! It's Hale Navy, and you can see how it turned out in this post.
A+
2. Light Fixtures.
- Hallway light. It came down during the move so we could carry things upstairs, and we never put it back up. I'm going to hang a gorgeous brass sconce there! So excited!
- Entry light. I know what I'm after, I just have to find it and buy it.
- Add an overhead light in the office.
F- – Ha! I earned a big F- on this one. I didn't complete a single item. I spent my time on the living room makeover instead. These lighting updates will happen eventually!
3. The Office.
- Get the space organized Done!
- Paint the walls Shoji White (Sherwin Williams) – see my favorite white paint colors here. Done!
- Add an overhead light (see above) – I'm going to hold off on this one!
- Add blinds to the French doors (I'm leaning toward bamboo blinds.) – This one is holding up the makeover reveal. I'm working with a company I've used before to get bamboo blinds, so more to come!
- Take down the old curtains & buy and hang new ones. Done! I love my new curtains in the room.
- Rug (I'm cheating a little, since I already have this in place. Haha! I bought this one when we moved in.)
- Make panels for the back of the desk. Done. You can see them in the floral curtains post.
- Style the bookshelves. Done! I love how they turned out!
- Order or DIY art for behind the desk and the other wall. I repurposed an old sign I made to hang above the calendar.
- Hang the calendar and art behind the desk. Hung the Lindsay Letters calendar and my bulletin board. You can see it in this post!
I'm giving myself an A+ on this one, because I'm only waiting on the blinds company and then we're finished!
Bonus #4. DIY Dishwasher Panel.
- Done! I'm thrilled with how it turned out, and I shared it in this post.

Home Goals for 2020 {April – June}
Now that my family is home from school through August, I'm not sure how many projects I'll finish, but I'm aiming for 3 goals per quarter this year. I hope to tackle one space in particular: the girls' bedroom and bathroom.
1. Makeover the Girls' Bedroom & Bathroom.
The move has been fairly smooth for them, but they miss their decorated old rooms. My oldest especially has been begging me to paint the lime green walls.
There are two bedrooms in our new house for the girls, but they decided to share the room with the ensuite bathroom and use the other bedroom as a playroom. I wanted to try it for a few months before committing to the shared room. So far, so good!

- Paint the bedroom walls Pink Ground by Farrow and Ball
- Paint the bathroom Shoji White by Sherwin Williams
- Maybe add an accent wall with wallpaper or a stencil?
- Buy bunk beds (I've had my eye on this full loft bed over full bed for years!)
- Buy new bedding
- Either buy a new dresser or find an old one and paint it white
- Reuse old decor on the walls
- Hem the curtains
As you can see, it's not much more than painting, getting their beds set up and decorating, but I think it'll take a couple of months to get it all done. Right now my oldest is sleeping on a day bed and my youngest is in the trundle bed on the floor. I know it will feel so much more like their space once we freshen it up!
This is how the room looks right now:

I'm putting the day bed & trundle in the playroom as a seating area and extra beds for guests.
2. Finish the Office Space & share it. See the Office design plan here.
- Get bamboo blinds for the doors
- See everything else we already accomplished at the beginning of this post!

That's all we have left! I'm so excited to finish this room and share the final results.
3. Finish the Living Room & share it. See the Living Room design plan here.
- Hide the TV cord inside the wall.
- Find a piece of art or decor for one last wall.
- Hang the TV above the mantel. Done!
- Arrange decor on the bookshelves. Done!
- Hang curtains. Done!
- Add a gallery wall. Done!

Then it's done for now! I'm so happy this room came together so easily and that we mostly used things we already owned.
We'll replace the ceiling fan and add some new swivel chairs later. I'm trying to get the most important rooms into good shape before I invest in a lot of new decor or furniture.
BONUS 4. Buy a new light fixture for our eat-in kitchen area.
The other night we were eating and I looked up to see that one of the panes on this hideous light was broken and about to fall on us! Yikes!

We took it down, and my husband declared it was time for a new light in there.
Done! You don't have to ask me twice! I'm on the hunt for the perfect light fixture for that space. I still don't have a vision for the kitchen, so it'll be a challenge to choose a fixture without a full vision board, but I'm going to try!
I hope it's helpful to see how I set home goals each quarter. So far I've found it works well to break things into 3-month periods instead of one big list for the whole year! As long as I remember to revisit my list and redo it each quarter, we're good!
Off to tackle some painting and shopping!
