A touch of feminine décor in my blush and brass home office creates the ideal spot for any entrepreneur to get down to work. Blush and brass make a gorgeous, inspiring pairing for any girly space in your home.
I mentioned in my 2020 Home Goals post that my first full makeover in the new house would be my office. Hooray!
I'm starting to makeover the rooms in my home, and I've found that tackling one room at a time is hard. I'm overwhelmed by all the inspiration and improvements I want to make here, so I'm really glad I wrote my home goals list and made this mood board to keep me focused on one decision and one room at a time.
When you start a room makeover, it's easy to get swamped by ideas (followed closely by analysis paralysis and decision fatigue). Every home decorator knows these struggles all too well. You browse Pinterest for ideas and before you know it, you have a million options and no clear direction on where to begin.
How to Start a Room Makeover
I like to begin with one large inspirational piece, such as a rug, curtains, or a piece of art, and build from there. These are usually the biggest and most colorful items in a space, so their color scheme sets the tone for the rest of the room.
In my office, I started with the rug, partly out of necessity. When we moved in, I needed a rug right away, because I didn't want my rolling desk chair to scratch the freshly refinished floors. I wanted a feminine space, so I searched for "blush rug" and this one came up. I fell for it instantly.

One piece of advice I give myself when I'm overwhelmed by inspiration and can't decide: if you like something and it works in the space, buy it! There's no need to agonize over a decision forever. Just go for it!
Why I Chose to Makeover the Office First
It's hard for me to decorate the rest of the house when I'm sitting in a room that doesn't inspire me. It's also one of the first rooms you see when you walk through the front door, so I wanted to tackle it first.
This is what it looked like when we first moved in.

The green walls were really getting to me, so I had the room painted right away!

I plan to makeover every space in this house, but that will take years. Thankfully, the office doesn't need any major changes, just paint and some décor! Here's my list of what I want to do in here:
- Finish organizing the space (mostly done)
- Paint the walls Shoji White (Sherwin Williams) – see my favorite white paint colors here.
- Add an overhead light (I'll need an electrician to run the wiring for it.)
- Add blinds to the French doors (I'm leaning toward bamboo blinds.)
- Take down the old curtains and buy and hang new ones (I've ordered them and they're due to arrive in March.)
- Rug
- Make panels for the back of the desk – I have the materials and just need to get started!
- Style the bookshelves – I just ordered a few pieces and I'm tweaking things as inspiration strikes
- Order or DIY art for behind the desk and the other wall
- Hang the calendar and art behind the desk
- Either swap the knobs on the built-ins for matte brass ones or use rub-and-buff to tone down some of the shine.
I've crossed off the few things I've finished so far, but there's much more to do! My goal is to have it all done by April 1, and I think I can make it!
Here's my mood board for the space. I love seeing it all come together!
