I adore decorating the 12-foot Christmas tree in my front window. I like to switch things up a little each year, and this one is no different. I decorated with navy buffalo check ribbon and assorted turquoise and blue glass ornaments. I added them to last year’s decor and ended up with a totally new look using a few budget-friendly changes!

Here’s a peek behind the scenes of a blogger’s life. It takes me a while to figure out exactly how I want to decorate certain spaces, and for some reason the pressure of a few of them nearly freezes me every year. The large Christmas tree in my front window is one of them. I get that way about my mantel too.

I like to make big, bold, coordinated statements in these spaces, and sometimes that’s just too much for my brain to handle. Ha!

You’re probably wondering what this crazy blogger lady is going on about. Here’s the bottom line: I’ve been working on this big Christmas tree for 2.5 months, and I finally added the last touches yesterday! We get to enjoy it for nearly a week before Christmas. LOL

Okay, here’s what I don’t want you to take away from this post. I don’t want you to think you need a big, elaborate tree that you have to completely overhaul every year. Heck no!

I highly recommend collecting favorite pieces over time that you truly love. I’ve bought or made nearly every ornament on this tree over the past 6 years, and I use them every single year. They include the glittery deer, mercury glass birds, mercury glass balls, DIY wood slice chalkboards, DIY paper-mache ornaments, antique ornaments, wooden stars, and a few other special pieces.

But I love switching up the look, so I like to freshen things with different ribbon. I used about 20 feet of the navy buffalo check ribbon. I also used a burlap and jingle bell ribbon I’ve had for 3 years (from Hobby Lobby).

So what else did I switch out this year? I made some super easy DIY glass ornaments using empty craft glass ornaments from Hobby Lobby and a little paint! See? So simple!

I had several shades of turquoise and blue paint on hand, so I poured some into the empty clear ornaments and rolled them around until the paint coated the entire inside. After letting them dry for a few days, I popped the tops back on and hung them on the tree. Easy peasy!

I also couldn’t resist this adorable blue felt pom-pom garland from Target. It’s totally unnecessary, but I loved hanging 3 strands on my tree.

That’s everything new I added this year. And see how different it looks from last year!

Now let’s talk about wrapping paper. I moved away from the traditional reds and greens and chose blues, browns, and metallics. I walked into Target, found some papers I loved, and made sure they coordinated. The must-have was the navy plaid paper from Sugar Paper. I adore their products, including their ribbons and washi tape too!

The kraft and gold wrapping papers (tree paper & swirl paper) come from the same designers. The turquoise, glittery pastel ornament paper is just another Target find, but I love it for wrapping the girls’ presents! I didn’t realize how glittery it was, though, and now my floor and table are covered in sparkle!

I like to dress up the gift with wide ribbon and tie on the tag with thinner twine. See my favorite roundup of FREE printable gift tags here.
I’m happy to report that I’m done shopping and almost done wrapping! Yay!! Now it’s time for baking and enjoying two weeks off with my kids!
Do you switch up your tree decor every year? Do you love wrapping gifts??
