I wasn't planning on sharing my big tree in the dining room this year. I honestly thought about not decorating it at all, but I couldn't help myself. Despite the craziness of the season, I love having my 9-foot tree in the front window and seeing it glow as I drive up to the house at night.

This year I didn't add much more to the tree than last year, but I did add some new ribbon and larger ornaments.

You may remember the poinsettias and mini wooden skis from my tree in the living room on my home tour.

Living Room Christmas Tree from A Very Merry Christmas Home Tour

Here's a little blogging secret. Are you ready?? Things don't always stay the same after I take pictures.

For example, I had the large burlap and red poinsettias, red berry garland and the mini wooden skis on the living room tree. Once I shared my home tour, I took all of the decor down and just put up our personal ornaments that we've collected over the years. I love having all those memories on display, but they don't necessarily make for pretty pictures.

Real life? Yes. Pinterest-worthy? Not so much.

Then I had the poinsettia ornaments and wooden skis just lying around, so I added them to the big tree! I also added some plaid ribbon and buffalo check bows from Michael's. I love those two ribbons!

Some of my ornaments were already on the tree, including these DIY chalkboard wood slice ornaments, some glittery deer, DIY scrapbook paper ornaments, mercury glass ornaments, tin metal picture frame ornaments and other little fillers.

I honestly LOVE the decorations I have for my tree and don't plan on replacing them every year or anything like that, but I like to add something different for fun each year. Ribbon is a great way to mix things up.

I used this rustic jingle bell burlap ribbon from Hobby Lobby again, the same one as last year. I just loved it so much.

In addition to a new ribbon, I changed how I placed it on the tree. I cut it. Eek! Why was that so hard? I find I don't want to cut my nice ribbon, but I did it anyway.

I stopped some ribbon before the bottom of the tree, and I started some in the middle. I curled and looped it, and let it cascade down the tree imperfectly. I got a lot of tips about adding ribbon to a tree from this blog post.

With each passing year I'll buy more ornaments, and it will look fuller and maybe even like a professional tree. Eventually it may look like it belongs in a magazine. Ha!

After I finished adding everything I wanted, I stepped back and immediately thought of a cabin in the Smoky Mountains. The skis and the plaid remind me of that country cabin in the woods with the skis, the buffalo check, the plaid and my crate tree stand. I absolutely LOVE it this year!

Last year I made a collage of my Christmas trees through the years, so I decided to make it a yearly tradition. I love seeing how it evolves over time. I knew I'd put more lights on my tree this year, but looking at it, I couldn't really tell. Now, seeing it next to previous years, I realize I added a lot more lights!
