Setting home goals every 3-4 months is how I keep my projects moving and on track!

I've been meaning to finish this goal post for a month now, but between virtual school, sick kids, and just life in January, it's taken me this long! That's why I switched to revisiting my goals every 4 months. This way, if I'm a month behind, I still have 3 months to get it done!

I used to set goals once a year, but by December I'd forgotten all of them. Any goal needs revisiting throughout the year, and this is how I make sure I do that!

HOW MY HOME GOALS TURNED OUT FOR 2021

To see everything we finished in the house last year, check out this Two Years: Before and After Home Tour. It's easy to feel like we didn't get much done in 12 months, but when it all sits together in one post, it's far more than I realized!

You can find all of the original home goal posts here:

Here are a few highlights from the year:

MY 2022 HOME GOALS, PART 1

I learned last year that big goals during the holidays just don't work for me, since I'm too busy with holiday tasks to work on the house. So, I kept the bar really low!

My goals for late 2021 were to create plans for the dining room, butler's pantry, and laundry room. All I had to do was come up with the plans, and I did!

1. Finish the Dining Room Makeover

I shared most of the dining room plans in my dining room design plan post, plus a few peeks at the other two spaces.

Traditional Blue and Green Dining Room Makeover

WHERE TO SHOP: Gingham Curtains | Scalamandre Raphael Green Wallpaper | Wicker Lamps | Pleated Lamp Shades | Ornate Brass Mirror | 8-Light Brass Chandelier | Pear Plate | Block Print Fabric | Jute Rug | End Chair | Trim Paint Color: Farrow & Ball Card Room Green

I've switched a couple of things from the original plan, like the wallpaper and paint color. They're still in the same green family, though, and everything else is pretty much unchanged!

I first planned on Carolina Gull (BM) for the trim, but it seemed too dark, so I stepped down to Oyster Bay (SW). Oyster Bay (SW) is very close to Misted Green (BM), which is one step lighter than Carolina Gull. Either way, it's going to look so good!

The wallpaper I chose is a toile. It still picks up the same greens as my original pick, just softer and less modern.

Countryside Morning Wallpaper
I adore the little deer in the pattern. It feels like a nod to our private, wooded backyard and the deer that visit.

I'm right in the middle of the makeover and owe you a quick update.

Here's how the room looked last fall:

And here's how the dining room looks today!

Oyster Bay by Benjamin Moore covers the wainscoting and crown molding.

The brass mirror is up and I've finished painting all the trim. Now it's time for wallpaper! I'm debating whether to cover the gray paint first so it won't show through if there's a gap between the wallpaper seams.

I've decided I can just paint stripes wherever the seams will fall and call it done!

Still on the List to Finish the Dining Room Makeover:

  • Paint the Trim
  • Hang the Wallpaper (already have it)
  • Hang the Large Brass Mirror
  • Sconces (I found antique brass candelabras for the wall beside the china cabinet)
  • New Light Fixture (ordered, currently backordered)
  • Attach Trim Tape to the Drapes (ordered)
  • Hang the Curtain Rods and Drapes (already have them)
  • Paint the Outlet Covers
  • Replace the Seat Covers (fabric is on order)
  • Buy a New Rug
  • Buy new lamps and lampshades

I'm waiting for my budget to catch up so I can order the rug and lamps I really want.

But hopefully I'll get it all finished before April!

2. Begin the Butler's Pantry Makeover

It's such a tiny pass-through next to the dining room that it seems silly to call it a big makeover. But I'm doing several steps, so I'm hoping to finish it close to April.

A Butler's Pantry from the 90's

Here's what I need to do:

  • Replace the countertop, hopefully with marble
  • Paint the cabinets a lovely blue (Benjamin Moore's Little Falls)
  • Hang the wallpaper (I already have it)
  • Swap out a cracked glass pane in a cabinet door

It's a tiny countertop, but I've never replaced one before, so I have no idea where to start or who to call. I guess I'll ask around locally for someone who does that kind of work.

The glass should be simple to replace. I just need to call a glass company.

You can see some ideas for the laundry room and butler's pantry on this dining room concept board! I wanted them to flow smoothly into the neighboring dining room and kitchen.

3. Get Ready for the Laundry Room Makeover

I don't think I'll tackle this makeover just yet, but I can start buying decor, ordering supplies for DIY projects, and planning my first move.

Laundry room with lots of storage, hunter green tiles on the floor and hunter green countertops.
The laundry room right after we moved in, and it still looks the same today!

I plan to hang beadboard on the walls and paint either the beadboard or the wall above it Comfort Gray. The other part (whether wall or beadboard) will probably be Shoji White.

I'd love to do a full gut job and renovation in there, but for phase 1, I'm just going to give it a little touch-up.

I have some DIY ideas for the floor and countertops, and I know which light I want. Beyond that, I haven't settled on much! I hope to have a firmer plan before the end of April.

Cross your fingers for me!

Once these rooms are done, I'll be ready to tackle some of our bedrooms. I'm excited to see how many makeovers I can finish this year!

I'm not a fast maker-overer. It's been two years since we moved in, and I've been steadily working on one space at a time. It's definitely slower than what I see on social media, but I'm a one-woman operation with a tight budget and limited time.

But I like going slowly. It gives me time to live in a space before changing it, and that has been invaluable. I don't think I'd be doing what I'm doing in the dining room at all if I had jumped into a makeover right after we moved in. So, I'm grateful that my time and budget limits make me slow down!
