Setting home goals keeps my projects moving along. I hope they encourage you to set your own goals and plan for your home, too!
I can't believe it's already time for another home goals post, but I'm so glad I write them every four months. It forces me to pause and take stock of how far we've come and where we need to head next!
I used to set goals once a year, only to forget them by December. Any goal is worth revisiting throughout the year, and this is how I make sure I do.
HOW I DID WITH MY HOME GOALS IN 2022, Part 1
If you'd like to see everything we've accomplished at the house over the past couple of years, check out this Two Years: Before and After Home Tour. It's easy to feel like we got little done in 12-plus months, but when everything is gathered in one post, it's far more than I'd realized!
You can find every home goal from 2021, plus my first home goal post for 2022, right here:
Here are some highlights from the past four months:
- Painting Outlet Covers: A How-To
- Installing Peel-and-Stick Wallpaper
- Adding Curtain Trim Tape for a Custom Finish
- Reupholstering Dining Chair Seat Covers
MY 2022 HOME GOALS, PART 2
I kicked off the year by planning the dining room! I've had a blast trying new DIY projects and picking up fresh skills while working through this makeover.
From January through April, my goals were to draw up plans for the dining room, butler's pantry and laundry room. All I had to do was make the plans, and I did!
1. Finish the Dining Room Makeover
We're not quite done yet, since I'm still waiting on the rug, lamps and lampshades. Once they arrive, we'll be ready for the reveal! I'm aiming to wrap it up by the end of May or early June!
You can find the original dining room design plan post, and you've already seen several sneak peeks of the progress in my recent posts.

SOURCES: Gingham Curtains | Scalamandre Raphael Green Wallpaper | Wicker Lamps | Pleated Lamp Shades | Ornate Brass Mirror | 8-Light Brass Chandelier | Pear Plate | Block Print Fabric | Jute Rug | End Chair | Trim Paint Color: Farrow & Ball Card Room Green
Check out my Dining Room Makeover progress post to see everything we've done so far. For example, I went with different wallpaper than the original plan, and I painted the lower half of the room Oyster Bay instead of Caroline Gull. (To be honest, I might go back and repaint it Caroline Gull, but we'll see.)

Still on the List to Finish the Dining Room Makeover:
- Paint the Trim
- Put Up the Wallpaper
- Mount the Large Brass Mirror
- Wall Sconces
- Install a New Light Fixture
- Apply Trim Tape to the Drapes
- Install the Curtain Rods and Drapes
- Paint the Outlet Covers
- Swap Out the Seat Covers
- New Rug – still waiting for it to be delivered
- New Lamps & Lampshades – still waiting for them to be delivered
I had to wait until March before my budget allowed me to order the lamps, lampshades and rug. They should all arrive soon, and then I'll share the big reveal. I can't wait!!
2. Begin & Complete the Butler's Pantry Makeover
I planned to start this butler's pantry makeover already, but it hasn't fit into the budget yet. I've considered swapping in a cheap countertop, but I really want real marble.
The budget is what's holding this makeover back. But once the countertops are sorted, the rest will be simple!

But since it's such a small pass-through beside the dining room, we should be able to finish it by the end of August.
To-Dos for the Butler Pantry Makeover:
- Swap out the countertop – ideally for marble
- Paint the cabinets a lovely blue (Benjamin Moore's Little Falls)
- Put up the wallpaper (I already have it on hand.)
- Fix a cracked glass pane in a cabinet door

3. Begin and Complete the Laundry Room Makeover
I've actually been drafting plans for this room, but I've been stuck on the flooring. I'm dying to use the super-popular marble checkerboard look here, so I kept hunting for a product that could go over the existing tile. I considered vinyl stickers, paint and floor tiles, and I think I've finally found the perfect option! I'll share the full plan soon.

To-Dos for the Butler Pantry Makeover:
- Install faux checkerboard tile flooring
- Coat the countertops with countertop paint
- Install beadboard paneling
- Paint the walls and the beadboard
- Hang a window treatment
- Replace the light fixture
I'd love to do a full gut job and replace the tile, countertops and sink. But for phase one, I'm just giving it a little makeover, and I think it will look beautiful!
I can't wait to show you the whole finished space very soon!
Once these rooms are finished, I'll be ready to take on some of our bedrooms. I'm excited to see how many makeovers I can complete this year!
I'm not a speedy maker-overer. It's been two years since we moved into our home, and I've been steadily working through each room, one at a time. That's far slower than what I see on social media, but I'm a one-woman operation working with a limited budget and limited time.
But I like going slowly. Living in a space for a while before changing it has been invaluable to me. I don't think the dining room would look anything like it does now if I'd jumped into a makeover the moment we moved in. So I'm grateful that my time and budget limits make me slow down!
