Take a tour of my Christmas kitchen, full of plaid accents! My Edgecomb Gray kitchen is the backdrop for our everyday life, so I love dressing it up for the holidays!
I was not exaggerating when I said I went "mad for plaid" in my living room Christmas decor post this year. I have really loved adding bold red plaid throughout my home, and the kitchen is the best example of that!

Of all the rooms I decorate for Christmas, the kitchen is probably my favorite (closely followed by the living room family Christmas tree). It is the hardest room for me to photograph, because the light comes from only one end of this long room, so it does not translate well to the screen. I am trying to share my love for it through these photos anyway.
When I decorate the kitchen, I love finding holiday versions of everyday items. For example, I swap out towels and mugs for my holiday collections. This year I found the perfect holiday runner to replace the rug beside my stove. It makes me so happy while cooking dinner each night.

And if you have ever wondered how to decorate a kitchen, I shared my ideas here. (Most of the kitchen staples are linked in that post too, in case I miss any here.)
Some of my usual kitchen decor returns every year. I always love to add wreaths to the cabinets. This year I bought some new ones that I adore! (Last year I used wreaths I already owned, and they just were not my favorites. You can see them in my Christmas kitchen last year.)

But these cute 12.5 inch mini mistletoe wreaths are a perfect fit for my cabinets this year.

Last year I shared how I hung the wreath ribbons using command hooks placed upside down. I left those hooks inside the cabinets all year, and they worked perfectly again this year!

My gold mercury glass ornaments hanging from the chandelier are back, just like last year, along with some greenery from the yard. I may try this decor idea in the dining room next year, once I get my new chandelier in there.

This year I added a lumbar pillow to the storage bench, thanks to a suggestion from my friend Emily. Duh! Why did I never think to add one there before? I will have to find another cute one for the rest of the year. For now I am enjoying this plaid and sherpa pillow!
I have shared before how much I love this little decor moment behind my corner sink. I love the lamp, the marble pothos plant, the candle, my scalloped wicker picture frames, and my custom window shade from Martha & Ash.

The lamp switches on by itself every night at dusk, thanks to the smart plugs I use on all of my lamps. It is magical each evening when the kitchen is clean and I turn off the lights, and the glow from the lamp just makes me smile. My pothos plant has also grown a TON this year.
I was amazed recently when I saw this same spot from a year ago! It now trails down to the floor by the bar stools, and I think I need to move it higher and get another one for by the sink.

I always keep an Antique Candle Co. candle back there, ready to burn. A kitchen candle is a must. Right now I am alternating between Good Tidings and Spiced Cranberry. They are so good and perfect for the holidays. (Good Tidings may be sold out, so be sure to add it to your list for next year! Christmas Day is another Christmas candle I love.)

I swapped the artwork in my wicker scalloped frames for some festive prints from Dogwood Hill. I love them both, but the bar cart art is my favorite.
Let's talk about this runner! I am so thrilled with how it looks in my kitchen. It is a Ruggable rug (I have reviewed these washable rugs here). I love that I only had to buy the top decorative piece, which attaches to the rubber rug pad. So I will just store this top piece until next year.

But plaid is so fun for Christmas. I love how it pairs perfectly with my Stewart Tartan hand towels. I am obsessed!

And of course I had to get a tartan plaid table runner for my kitchen table (you can also see it in my dining room Christmas tour this year). It is the perfect pop of color for the table and looks casually festive with my girls' gingerbread house centerpieces.

We buy Target gingerbread houses to decorate each year, but last year was the first time I used them as a centerpiece on the wooden tray, and I think it will become a tradition. This year I also did not try to "help" them decorate. Less fancy, more real. It seems to be a theme for this year, and I like it!

I am loving my new collection of Santa salt shakers and mismatched Christmas plates, which I display above my desk in the kitchen.

I now have two Santa salt shakers, one from last year and one I found this year. I plan to add one to my collection each year.

I also added the small Santa plate to my collection this year. They make me smile as they peek out through the glass-front cabinets.

And of course we have our coffee station with the Christmas mugs I have collected over the years. My girls think it is so much fun to use the Mrs. Claus and reindeer mugs for their hot chocolate. I hope they will use them in their own homes one day with fond memories of their childhood.

Oh, and I almost forgot! Let's talk about this corner with the stairs and my Christmas card display. It looks a little different from last year because I added the stair runner this year, plus the mirror that used to hang in my dining room. It is nice to finally have a dedicated spot to hang our Christmas cards where we see them every day!

I added more greenery to my banister this year. It looked so good with just the greenery that I did not feel it needed bows. I found these awesome decorative twist ties for attaching the greenery to the banister!

I used floral wire last year, and it left a mark on my banister. These are soft and pretty. I used the gold color, which is already sold out, but they still have brown ones in stock!

This is three garlands attached to one another. I start with a cheap garland, then layer nicer garlands on top, using the cheap one to "grab" onto the next. (See my mantel greenery post for the idea. I use the same concept.)

My nicest garland came from a local shop. I bought this 15-foot cedar garland this year and love how it extends on each end and winds down the newel post. It is perfect, if I do say so myself. I also could not resist hanging some bells on the newel post.

I think that wraps up my kitchen Christmas tour! I hope you enjoyed seeing how I styled everything and getting a little peek into my brain and why I decorate the way I do. I am so glad you are here!
