The Fourth of July is the best excuse to decorate your house and patio in red, white and blue. Here’s an easy step-by-step tutorial for making a beautiful patriotic wreath with a ribbon bow.
Are you looking for a fun, creative way to celebrate summer and the 4th of July? If so, making a patriotic wreath might be just the project for you!

It’s a great way to add festive decor to your home, and it’s also a fun way to get crafty and show off your patriotism. In this tutorial, I’ll walk you through making a patriotic wreath step by step, with all the materials and instructions you’ll need.
I recently realized I didn’t have any patriotic door decor. So, I looked over some of the decor pieces I already had and brainstormed how to make a new wreath for my front door. I think it turned out so cute!

Front Porch SOURCES: Planters | Faux Topiaries | Monogrammed Door Mat | Pineapple Door Knocker | Outdoor Hanging Lantern | Door Paint Color: Onyx by Benjamin Moore
I wish I’d grabbed some small American flags and tucked them into the topiaries in my planters, but maybe I’ll add those next year. You could use this wreath for Independence Day, Memorial Day, Veterans Day or any time you feel especially thankful for living in the land of the free!
Supplies You’ll Need for a Patriotic Wreath
- Wreath form – I used a 24 inch grapevine wreath.
- Faux greenery
- 3 faux hydrangea stems
- 5 faux blueberry stems
- 2.5 inch Navy and white star ribbon
- 1.5 inch Red and white striped ribbon
- Twist ties or zip ties
- Scissors for cutting fabric
- A hot glue gun

Instructions for Making a Patriotic Wreath
1. Gather Your Materials
Before you get started, gather all the necessary materials. See the materials list above.
2. Add the Floral and Greenery Elements to the Wreath
Choose some faux green leaves and fill in the wreath. Use hot glue to secure them to the wreath.

Then add the 3 large hydrangea blooms evenly around the wreath and secure them with hot glue, if you’d like. Next, fill in the rest of the wreath with the 5 blueberry stems. I tucked them under the hydrangeas.

3. Prepare Your Ribbon and Make a Bow
I used this tutorial for making a bow with the two ribbons I had. I simply layered the red ribbon over the blue ribbon to make it two-dimensional. The ribbon tails are pretty long, though, because I like that look!
Use the twist ties or zip ties to form the bow and attach it to the wreath form.
4. Display your Wreath and Enjoy!
Finally, it’s time to hang your patriotic wreath and enjoy the fruits of your labor! Hang it on your front door, in your living room, or anywhere else you want to show off your love for your country.

Making a patriotic wreath is a fun, creative way to show your love for your country. By following these simple steps and gathering the necessary materials, you’ll be able to create a beautiful, festive wreath in no time.
Happy crafting, and God Bless America!
