Open shelving works with almost any home decor style, and these farmhouse-style ideas will have you ready to install some of your own! They’re perfect for displaying decor or for everyday storage!
One of my all-time favorite DIY projects is my $40 open shelves that I built in my old kitchen. I know the trend is supposedly over. I think it was on the “going out of style” lists back in 2016. So why bring it up today? Every time I post my farmhouse open shelving on Instagram, people go wild!
I still love the look, so I don’t really care whether it’s trendy. Do what you love, I say! (P.S. I miss them now that we’ve moved, but it’s also fun to style built-in bookshelves, too!)

I never meant for mine to be anything more than decoration, but many people use open shelves as open cabinets to store plates, cups and other everyday kitchenware. Everyday items work well on open shelves because they get washed regularly and won’t collect dust. *smart!*
So today I wanted to gather some of my favorite farmhouse open shelving ideas for inspiration. You can build shelves just like mine for less than $40. Seriously! They pack such a punch! Get the full DIY shelf tutorial here.

I’ve long admired these reclaimed wood shelves from Our Vintage Home Love. They’re the perfect addition to a truly vintage home full of character and charm. Fun side note: her farmhouse table in the dining room was the first one I ever fell for, and I decided then that I’d have one of my own someday. (I made my own farmhouse table years ago, tutorial here.)

I love these simple DIY open shelves from Christina’s Adventures. Her whole home is beautiful (and real!), and she’s one of the most authentic, helpful bloggers I know!
