I'm one of those "terrible people" who starts decorating for Christmas long before the turkey is carved or we've gone around the table giving thanks. Let's just call that November holiday Merry Thanksmas.

BUT! This year is a little different. I've been itching to paint my kitchen cabinets white since the first day I saw my kitchen. There was always another project waiting, or something to host at home, or it simply wasn't a convenient time.

Y'all.

Here's the honest truth: there is never a convenient time to paint your kitchen cabinets. Never.

With that in mind, I was about to lose it a couple of weeks ago when my girls were sick and I needed something to distract me from the cabin fever.

That's when I chose to paint my kitchen cabinets.

Just before Thanksgiving.

Just before Christmas.

Just before my girls' birthdays.

When I should be decorating and shopping for Christmas and birthdays, I'm sanding and cleaning cabinets, taping off walls and replacing trim.

Clearly, I have lost my mind.

All of my Christmas decorations are still up in the attic! Boo. The only thing I've done is march down to Walmart, grab a new tree and set it up in the living room so I'd feel a little less panicked every time a Christmas song played on the radio. (The glittery wooden star topper is from Target and the deer art is from Craftberry Bush.)

So while my cabinets dry, let's take a stroll down memory lane to some Christmas cheer from years past...

Christmas Home Tour 2013: Pretty in Plaid

Way back in 2013, when I was clearly ahead of the trend, I shared my "Pretty in Plaid" Christmas home tour. I was totally into tartan that year. And I'll be bringing some of that back this year since it's so hot right now and I love it.

Then last year I took the red out! I wanted a more neutral look and wanted to see if I could skip red for Christmas. As you'll see, a few touches of red sneak in here and there, but not many.

Instead of a full house tour, I split it up by room and shared one space at a time. Mostly that was because I was about to have a baby, and getting every room spotless at once for photos and posts felt overwhelming, so I served it up in smaller bites.

Last year I made this simple chicken wire Christmas card holder.

Once the season wrapped up, I cut out the photos from the cards and kept them on display all year. I'm eager to refresh it this year with new pictures of my family and friends!

I need to find a new home for our teeny Christmas tree that holds all of our handmade and sentimental ornaments. Hmmm, where should it go?

Then the tour moved into the kitchen, which I decorated for Christmas for the first time. I can't wait to see how it looks this year with white cabinets! So excited!!

I also stamped a Christmas design onto the chalkboard in my eat-in dining area.

I've got the sweetest, most colorful advent calendar to hang this year. I can't wait to see how it looks on the chalkboard. Hopefully the baby won't get into it! #fingerscrossed

My Christmas tree was a rustic, glam, glittery beauty last year, and I think I'll keep it mostly the same this year. I'll be busy dressing the new flocked tree.

I always try to add an ornament or two to my big tree each year. I have a DIY or two in mind, so we'll see if I get them done this season.

Last year I made this sweet scrapbook paper garland that looks like sheet music. I can't wait to hang it again this year. I also have a new garland planned for the new tree and I'm excited to make and share it. Of course, I always worry it won't turn out the way I pictured, but hopefully it will be cute and blog-worthy!

And lastly, I decorated the dining table ...

My mom is coming over to help me paint this morning, and I hope we'll find time to decorate too! My holiday home tour goes live next Monday! Eek! So much to do.

Wish me luck!
