Now that the weather is warming up, I finally packed away every last bit of Christmas and dressed my living room shelves for summer. I guess I skipped right over spring.

These days I lean toward decorating that works all year rather than changing everything with the seasons. I still enjoy adding a few seasonal touches here and there, though.

One easy way to bring a seasonal feel into your home is with new art, and nothing is more budget-friendly than some free printable art.

Honestly, I only just hung my last red and green plaid frames this weekend, and now I've added a splash of summer to my living room.

First, I hung my new wicker scalloped frames, which I adore. Then I filled my greenery-packed bookshelves with as much blue and white as I could find. (The scalloped frames were a bit of a splurge, but this woven frame gives a similar look for a fraction of the cost!)

Even though I wrote a post about Simple Formulas for Styling Bookshelf Decor, I still find it a challenge to get them styled *just* the way I like them. But I guess that challenge is part of the fun! I refer back to my post whenever I’m decorating shelves to get the balanced look I want.

For the summer art to go in my wicker frames, I designed a pair of lemon and blue & white chinoiserie printables and framed them. I'm sharing the free printables at the end of this post, along with a few from friends who made summer printables too! Take a look and choose your favorites to decorate your shelves this summer!

White hydrangeas for summer decor

I'm so glad I could snip the first hydrangea blooms from my bushes for this photo shoot. It's one of my favorite things about our house! Those marble coasters are only $13, too. So cute!

On the other side of the bookshelves is an adorable printable of a blue and white chinoiserie bowl filled with lemons. It pairs beautifully with the lemon tree in my other printable. The two are similar but not a perfectly matched set, which is exactly what I like.

I love all the blue and white accents that work for summer. They go perfectly with my Hale Navy walls, white trim and curtains. It's a look I return to again and again.

I also love decorating with my favorite design books. They are useful and beautiful at the same time! My newest favorite is More Beautiful by Mark Sikes.

Decorating Books as Decor

Those books are full of gorgeous photos of traditionally styled homes. I adore Pinterest as much as anyone, but sometimes I want to turn real pages. Plus, the books double as decor. What's not to love?

TIPS FOR PRINTING PRINTABLE ART DECOR

  • Home Printer: If you don't have a good printer at home, I recommend the one I use. I have owned this printer for several years. The ink lasts a long time and it has never given me any trouble. It prints all of my free printables with no issues!!
  • Use Cardstock: Print your printables on cardstock. Regular printer paper is too thin, tears or wrinkles easily and shows through.
  • Other printer options: If you don't have a printer at home, I've used Staples and Office Depot for printing and both did a great job!
  • I set the printables to print at 100% with some margin around the edges so they fit your frame. They print at 8.5×11, which is slightly larger than an 8 x 10 frame, so you'll need to trim the borders to make them fit. If they don't fit your frame, adjust the scale in your print settings and see if that helps. Sadly I can't offer specific printer advice, since every printer and computer combination is different.
