The Foyer Pendant Light I Chose

I've been working hard to replace all of the light fixtures in my home that I don't love or that bother me most. Since I didn't take the time to replace the lighting when we moved into our last home, I'm making it a priority now.

I lived in my old house with ugly lighting for far too long, and I regretted not changing it sooner. It also helps that my husband has gotten really good at swapping them out!

When I was looking for something for my new foyer, I wanted a piece with some curves. There are so many straight lines in this part of my home that I thought a round entryway chandelier would be my favorite.

But the round chandelier I fell in love with cost almost $2,000, which was NOT in my price range. Womp. Womp.

For reference, this is what was hanging in the foyer when we moved in. I know plenty of people love this style, but it wasn't my taste. (My girls have asked to hang it in their closet.)

So I set out to find a compromise I still loved…

The lantern foyer light I chose has the open, modern lines of the fixture I had in my old house, but it also has those curved lines at the top. #swoon

I love everything about it! The gilded gold finish, the curves, the lack of glass (less cleaning!) and the 4 candelabra bulbs that keep it nice and bright! I'm so glad I found something I love within my budget.

How to Choose an Entryway Light? and FAQs

Finding the right light for your foyer can often seem overwhelming or complicated. Unlike other rooms in your home, you're likely working with a small entryway that gets heavy traffic.

It's easy to see how the entryway gets overlooked. However, this is a space where you can have a little fun and add some personality.

Here are a few tips to help you narrow down your options:

  • Hang your fixture in the center of the room. That means centered on the width of the foyer as well as its length.
  • Make sure the bottom of your entryway light is at least seven feet off the ground. A tall friend coming to visit will thank you!
  • Think about your lightbulbs too. A smaller foyer can easily get away with softly diffused light, while a large space needs more brightness.

What Is the Best Lighting for a 2-Story Foyer?

If two stories open to the foyer, the standard design practice is to hang the fixture so its bottom sits level with the second story.

How big should a light fixture be in an entryway?

The light shouldn't be so large that it hangs lower than 7 feet off the ground. I had to choose the small version for my entryway, because otherwise it would have been too tall and people would have bumped their heads on it!

The Best Entryway Lighting Fixtures

Now that you have some quick tips for choosing the right entryway light for your home, let's start shopping! There's truly something for every home on this list, since a variety of styles work in a foyer.

Here are some of my favorite entryway lights to consider.

Capiz Pendant

This pretty Capiz Pendant is such a statement piece! Light is diffused through the facets of the capiz shell circles that make up the exterior, and it casts the prettiest shadows on the wall. Honestly, you could put this one anywhere in your home (like in the dining room pictured below!), but I like it for the entry.

If your entryway has a lower ceiling, you can still get this look with the Capiz flush mount light. If you have a grand entry, go for the larger chandelier!

Manor Indoor/Outdoor Glass Pendant

If you're looking for traditional foyer lighting with cleaner lines and a touch of modern farmhouse, this round glass pendant is worth a look. I especially love the combination of dark bronze and glass, but you can also get this entryway light in white or nickel.

Semi-Flush Mount Lighting

I mentioned this above, but the entryway sets the tone for the rest of your home. I've had my eye on this semi-flush mount drum pendant with a linen shade for quite a while, since it's perfect for a lower ceiling. I think it would be ideal for anyone with a transitional or traditional style home.

This pendant combines transitional curves with modern straight lines and is very similar to the light I chose! It even comes in black or satin brass and is quite budget-friendly.

Whitewashed Wood Draped Beaded Chandelier

While these beaded chandeliers may not be super trendy anymore, they're a classic look for a casual or coastal home. They're built to stand the test of time, so you won't have to worry about replacing it in a few years.

I especially love the texture this light has. It comes in both whitewashed and natural finishes for this beautiful foyer chandelier. It's perfect for a coastal, beachy vibe and comes in a flush mount and a larger chandelier option, too!
