Bedroom and Office Ideas with a Nautical Feel

This nautical-inspired bedroom and office offers calming comfort day and night. Its ocean-toned palette creates a peaceful, restful retreat.

Bedroom and Office Inspiration with a Nautical Theme

Hi friends! I'm giving my office and guest bedroom a makeover with a nautical theme. This room has been on my list forever, but for some reason I've mostly ignored it until now.

Maybe it's because I've been raising small children, including a baby back in 2014, that it kept getting pushed aside.

It was the last beige room in the house, but that changed last weekend. Woohoo! No more flat beige walls.

It now wears a lovely coat of Simply White (Benjamin Moore). I'd never painted a room white before, and I was eager to try it somewhere in my home.

Part of my reasoning for painting the walls white is that my new desk is white too, making it the ideal spot to photograph small projects for the blog.

So the space doubles as my photo studio. The large window sits across from my desk, so the lighting will be ideal for taking pictures.

I'm not finished with my kitchen makeover yet, and I usually stick to one makeover at a time, but I broke that rule with this one.

Original Home Office™ Standard Desk
The Desk of My Dreams

It all began when I bought my dream desk for less than half price at the Ballard Designs outlet in Atlanta. I was visiting family and stopped by the outlet to see whether they had any desks, and they did! I was thrilled to take it home. It's a bit wider and narrower than my old desk, which makes it perfect for that particular wall! The storage is fantastic, too. You can see how it looks in the space HERE!

A Blogger Office Makeover | TheTurquoiseHome.com

I started this little room makeover with a rough idea in my head, but nothing clear. I began to panic that I'd buy things at random and the room wouldn't look cohesive. So I took my own advice for starting a makeover and created a nautical vision board before going too far.

I've started by rearranging the room, and I'll share all of that soon once the paint dries and the curtains and wall decor go up. I still need to buy or make a few items.

Gorgeous Blue Threshold Paisley Curtains | TheTurquoiseHome.com

The starting point for the design was the gorgeous paisley curtains from Target. I fell for them while browsing Pinterest and knew they'd suit my office. They fit my budget, and they come in a generous 95" length. (Unfortunately those curtains are no longer sold, but I found THESE, which are just as beautiful and the same price!)

I already own white bedding for the guest bed, so I only need a few coastal-inspired throw pillows and I'm set. I'll also need lamps for the DIY nightstands I plan to build.

Framed Linen Pin Board | TheTurquoiseHome.com

I already have decor for above my desk, including this pretty linen-framed pinboard. I can't wait to fill it with inspiration to keep my creativity flowing while I work.

I Want to Eat Cake by the Ocean Rustic Sign | TheTurquoiseHome.com

My friend LZ, who makes these adorable signs on Etsy, sent me the “I want to eat cake by the ocean” sign. I absolutely love it! I'd happily eat cake by the ocean, and it's a fun nod to my coastal theme.

I didn't want the room to feel too coastal. Mostly I wanted a palette of whites, blues, and natural wood tones. I did pin a few very nautical throw pillows to the vision board, but they're only inspiration. I don't own any of them yet, and I may end up choosing completely different ones. I have the wooden sailboats, and they'll likely move in here once I'm finished using them for summer decor.

You'll notice the vision board includes a Pottery Barn sleeper sofa. Do you know whether any of them are actually comfortable? I'd like to replace the current full-size bed with either a daybed and trundle or a sleeper sofa. I love the idea of a sleeper sofa, but only if guests will be comfortable on it.

Okay, enough chatter! I'll leave you with some inspiration, and I'm off to finish painting!
