Here’s how I used a French cleat picture hanger to finally mount my ironing board hanger on the wall!
Remember the ironing board hanger I built last year? If not, that’s fine. It was a long time ago. I couldn’t hang it for a while. In the meantime it spent time in various states of play with Miss A or sat in a corner, waiting to be hung properly.

It wasn’t for lack of trying. I just couldn’t find the right hanging system for a board that had to hold an ironing board.

I first used command strips to hang it on the dining room wall for the photo above. Bloggers sometimes stage things in spots where they wouldn’t normally keep them, to get better light or a nicer backdrop. It happens all the time.
After staging that shot, I tried to hang it in the laundry room with command strips again. This time it fell off the wall … in the middle of the night … and Coach thought someone was breaking in. Picture his relief (mixed with a little frustration) when he learned his normally handy wife had hung the ironing board and wooden hanger with Velcro. Not my finest moment!
Next I tried D-ring hooks on the back. That made the board pull away from the wall whenever I tried to hang the ironing board on it.
Then one day at the hardware store I spotted these lovely French cleat picture hangers. How had I never seen them before?

They looked perfect! You screw one set of cleats into the wall.

Make sure it’s wide enough to catch a stud or two. Then screw the matching cleats into the back of the board. Slide the board cleats down onto the wall cleats, and voilà!

Now my ironing board is off the floor and no longer gathering dust in the corner of my bedroom.

Here’s another sneak peek at my not-quite-finished laundry room, which has been “in progress” for two years. Seriously?! I don’t know what it will take to finish that room. The board and batten looks lovely, and now that the ironing board hanger is up, we’re one step closer to the finish line. Ha!
Did you know about these picture hangers?
Where can I find a new, adorable ironing board cover? This one looks a little singed. Ha!
