This sweet mini book nook makeover is a perfect affordable weekend project with just a few supplies!

My youngest daughter has been patiently waiting for her room makeover since I finished her big sister's room earlier this year. The only catch is that she changes her mind every other week about what she wants.
I hadn't touched it since we moved in, other than to put her furniture in there. It needs a LOT of work. But I wanted to start with one small section, so I decided to tackle the alcove with a dormer window first. It's the perfect spot for a little reading nook!
Here's how it looked before, serving as a dumping ground for her stuffed animals and toys.

When we sat down to make a design board for the space, my daughter decided she wanted a coastal-themed bedroom.
We began by hunting for inspiring art, which I'll share later. That gave us a starting point for choosing a paint color. Whew! We couldn't agree on the paint color for a few days.

Thankfully, Lowe's carries lovely paint colors in both its Valspar line and its HGTV HOME by Sherwin Williams line. In the end we both agreed on Tidewater.
Tidewater is an HGTV HOME by Sherwin Williams paint color, a gentle light teal blue-green. It's light enough not to overwhelm the small space, and it's a soothing, calming shade that pairs beautifully with textured pieces that evoke the seaside.

We chose Valspar Signature Paint + Primer in an eggshell finish. It went on so smoothly, and I only needed two coats for full, beautiful coverage. I always use Purdy paintbrushes when I cut in the walls, and you can pick them up at Lowe's while you're getting your paint!

Once the paint was dry, we moved on to fun accessories with the coastal theme in mind.

First we replaced the original window treatments that came with the house. Lowe's has a great selection, and in the end we picked a neutral Sun Zero blackout roman shade that fits her window perfectly. It was so easy to install! I screwed in two brackets, and the back of the shade simply clipped in!
Then I chose a cute blue and white Allen + Roth throw pillow for her window seat. I want this pillow in my living room!

I grabbed this Allen + Roth jute pouf ottoman so she has a place to rest her feet if she sits in the window seat. It's a great accent for a small space like a bedroom, apartment or cozy living room. It doubles as extra seating when her friends visit!

Last, we picked this beautiful brushed gold sconce because the alcove doesn't get much light in the evening, and it's a lovely way to brighten a dark corner. The sconce can be hard-wired or plugged in, so choose whichever option suits you best!

I was thrilled by all the home decor I found at Lowe's, not just the items we bought. We have our eyes on some faux plants for the rest of my daughter's room makeover. Lowe's is the perfect place to find supplies for a quick, affordable home refresh!
My daughter loves her new, more functional reading nook. It still has plenty of storage for stuffed animals in the window seat bench, and she can't wait for me to finish the rest of the room!
