Hooray! I finally picked a color and painted the nursery! I’m thrilled to cross that off the list. I did it with a sick 3-year-old home from school, and I was 29 weeks pregnant. Booyah! I still have the DIY ability, at least for a little while longer.

When searching for a color for the nursery, I came across two that I thought I would like, one of which I knew I would LOVE. Well, lo and behold they were next to each other on the Benjamin Moore pant swatch and I would have never picked them if I just walked into the paint store and started picking out colors. I highly, highly recommend finding room colors on Pinterest or the just anywhere on the internet first. I think it gives you a good idea of what a color will look like in a room before you just wander into the paint store and start grabbing swatches.

Looking at the two colors online (Robin’s Nest and Lido Green), I was certain I would pick Robin’s Nest. I still felt that way even after I brought home the swatches.

Then came the step that is exactly why you should always ALWAYS paint samples on your wall before choosing. Always. Trust me. Once I painted both colors on the wall, I fell in love with Lido Green. Both were lovely (and this photo doesn’t capture their true colors well). Robin’s Nest was simply too dark and would have made the room feel less airy and fresh. Lido Green is a sweet blue-green mint that brings lovely light and freshness into the room. Honestly, if I could do it again, I might ask them to mix Lido Green at 50% strength for a lighter shade. But I really do love it just as it is.

The room was painted the standard builder’s beige, which was true of every room in the house when we moved in. #oneroomatatime

I didn’t tidy up for the before photo, because, well, you know. I don’t much enjoy cleaning these days.

And now the after! (I cleaned up for you …)

I love it! I can’t wait to start decorating the walls. (I adore that Lindsay Letters canvas from Hobby Lobby. Hob Lob has some of the cutest pieces right now, perfect for little girls’ rooms.)

But first … painting the furniture. My chalk paint is ready, and I plan to tackle it this weekend. We’ll see how it goes!

I still have a loooong way to go in the nursery, but I really think I can finish before the baby arrives in 6.5 weeks. Eek!! Time is flying.

What do you think of this color?

Love it or leave it for a baby girl’s nursery?
