This charming boxwood and bicycle wreath is a sweet way to dress up your front door this spring!
Spring is just around the corner, so it’s time for a fresh wreath on the front door! I love having a seasonal wreath on my door. I’m sure it cheers up the UPS driver too, and it always makes me smile when I pull up to the house.
Last year’s spring wreath is still one of my all-time favorites (it’s hanging on the open shelves in our kitchen right now), so I wasn’t feeling very inspired to top it this year. I love that wreath and want it to be my official spring wreath forever.

Still, I think I love this new one just as much! With the old wreath moved inside to the kitchen, my front door was bare, so I was eager to make a fresh one.
My first idea for the new wreath involved a bike. I found one online, but it wouldn’t arrive in time for today’s post, so I went to the store to look for it or something like it.

Just as I was about to give up on the bicycle idea, I spotted a charming fence and bike set (no longer available) that was the PERFECT size for a wreath. The only drawback was that it wasn’t colorful enough for me, but that’s an easy fix. Paint is my best friend.
I especially love the real wood handlebars. So cute!
I also thought it would look darling with a basket of flowers on the front. When I couldn’t find a mini basket at the store, I decided I’d make one at home, with no real idea how I’d pull it off.
You’ll have to read the instructions below to see how I made one! My middle name should be “where there’s a will, there’s a way,” because that’s how I live.
I’m so glad I took on this wreath challenge, because I absolutely love it! It’s also really easy to copy, so if you like it too, you’re in luck!

What You’ll Need for a Boxwood & Bicycle Spring Wreath
1. Boxwood Wreath – I went with a faux one since it would be outdoors and I didn’t want it falling apart. A real boxwood wreath would work too.
2. Fence & Bicycle (no longer available) – These sold out at Hobby Lobby, but I found some here.
3. Paint of your choice – for painting part of the bicycle. I used my favorite blue-green, Wythe Blue by Benjamin Moore, left over from my recent board and batten project.
4. Small craft paint brush
5. Small rope – for the bike basket
6. Small faux floral stems
7. Hot glue gun & glue sticks
8. Floral wire & floral wire cutters
9. Ribbon – I used this black and white ticking ribbon.

Step-by-Step: Making a Boxwood & Bicycle Spring Wreath
1. Paint Your Bike
If you’re painting the bike, do that first. I painted the parts that would be black, like the frame, but left the wheels, seat and handlebars alone.
I also slid some paper between the parts I was painting and the fence behind them so the fence didn’t pick up any paint.

I used Wythe Blue by Benjamin Moore, my all-time favorite blue-green, which I had on hand from my recent board and batten project. Any craft paint you already own will work.
2. Make Your Basket
I couldn’t find a basket the right size for the front of the bike, so I decided to make my own from thin rope and hot glue. I’d seen people wrap boxes in rope or make big rope baskets, so I figured it could work on a smaller scale.

I started with a small coil and glued each layer on until I had a little base. Then I kept building up, layer by layer, until it reached the right size. I held it up to the bike often to check the fit.
3. Fill the Basket with Flowers
I have plenty of faux flowers, so I picked out some smaller blooms and hot glued them into the basket.

4. Hot glue the basket onto the bike
5. Wire the bike and fence onto the wreath with floral wire.
6. Tie a bow with ribbon, or buy one, and attach it to the wreath.

That’s it! The whole thing took me about an hour, and I love how it turned out!
My husband took one look and said, “Wow, that’s a heavy-duty wreath.” Okay, maybe it’s a little extra, but I love it for all of its extra-ness!
