My dream job ... is becoming a reality

My dream job, for as long as I can remember, has been to be a stay-at-home mom. I have always wanted to be a wife and mom, and just like my mom, I wanted to be able to stay home with my kids.

Well, in December of 2010 I became a mom for the first time. Yay! I did return to work after my maternity leave, but my husband and I had a financial plan in place for me to quit by the time we had our second child. It worked out that I could work from home three days a week, and then my mom would watch our daughter the two days I was in the office. It was great! (Although it was hard to drive to Tennessee two days every week.)

But our plans don't always turn out the way we hope.

I loved my job and the people I worked with, our company was doing well, and things seemed to be humming right along. Then about 6 weeks ago my boss asked to meet with me. He told me that due to a new immigration law, and something about our company's tax structure, I couldn't work for a company in Tennessee and live in Alabama anymore! Come again?!?! I was shocked, to say the least. I had to either lose my job or move my family to Tennessee. (And since we had just bought a new house, and my husband has a job in Alabama, moving to Tennessee didn't look like an option for us.)

After my husband and I picked ourselves up off the floor, we decided this is a good thing. I know that all things work together for those who love the Lord, and I know that God has a plan for my life. And maybe I need to be home with my daughter!

Of course, we needed to sell our old house quickly! We dropped the price the day I found out about my job. (YAY God for taking care of that one ... should be closing in about a month!!!) So many things have worked out, which just shows us how God has all of this in His hands. We're excited that our daughter and I won't have to travel every week anymore. This summer we'll be spending a lot of time at the pool, with our friends & family, and at the lake. We like the water, can't you tell?

And hopefully this means more time for blogging and projects around the home! I have so many things I want to get done, and now I'll have much more time to do them.

The only really bad thing is how much I'll miss my co-workers. I've known some of them for 8 years. They're like family to me; we have the BEST time together. I told my husband the other day that this feels like when I left college. I had the best time there, and loved all of my friends and roommates, but when graduation came and I had to leave, it was such a bummer. I knew I would miss my people so much.

But change is so good. Change is when growth happens, and I'm excited about what the future holds for me as a stay-at-home mom, or a part-time working mom, or whatever else God has in store for me.

So, as of tomorrow, my dream job will become a reality. And I'm so glad you're here with me on this journey!
