Life Update with a Dog
This summer we got a dog! After years of our daughters asking for a puppy, we decided this year was the perfect time, and we brought home an adorable Cavapoo. Our girls are 12 and 8, so they’re the perfect ages to help care for a dog with our supervision. (They’ve done great!)
Our puppy is a mix of a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. She’s hypoallergenic, doesn’t shed and will be small to medium in size when fully grown. In other words, she’s perfect for us!

Winnie is her name, and she’s now 15 weeks old. She’s slept so well in her crate since the day we brought her home, and potty training has been going pretty well. I know it takes time, so we’re staying consistent and taking her out regularly.
Backyard Updates
While I did my research on training a puppy, I did NOT realize how much time I’d spend in our backyard during the potty training season of our lives. Ha!
We decided right away to get rid of the trampoline the girls had outgrown. We didn’t want a huge mud pit for the dog to roll around in and get dirty. And once the trampoline was gone, we realized the bare spot was the perfect size for a fire pit area!

I’ll share a full tutorial for the DIY fire pit as soon as we get everything set up. But in the meantime, my girls and I are ready to host an s’mores party in some cute dresses! Ha!

I also added new planters to the backyard along the retaining wall and in other spots to hide unsightly items. We’ll probably get more seating as the budget allows. One thing at a time!
Summer Outfits for the Girls
My girls are getting older and more particular by the day! I recently found some really cute dresses and sandals for them, which they modeled in our backyard photo shoot.
We found them at Walmart, which I love for the selection and the price points! Their girls’ items in the Wonder Nation line are my daughter’s favorites.
My tween (almost a teen) daughter says this beautiful eyelet dress is hugely popular among her friends. She’s excited to wear it to church this summer. The sandals are casual, but the pink color makes them a little more fun for summer!
Eyelet is on trend and is such a fun, feminine way to dress up a casual summer look.

My younger daughter loves anything that looks “older,” and she loved this one-shoulder dress. Check your stores for availability! I actually bought her a ton of stuff from Walmart’s girls section, and she’s so excited about all of her new summer clothes. I’ve shared most of them in the collage below.

I shared some of my favorite Walmart dresses recently, and I found one more that I love! This maxi dress is so comfortable, fits true to size and has pockets! The straps are wide, and I promptly hung it in my closet. It comes in several other colors, too!
The Rest of Our Summer
The rest of our summer has been spent at the pool or the lake! My girls are both on the swim team, so we’re at the pool every day! We plan to finish up the fire pit soon. We’re just waiting on the chairs to arrive and for time to put them together. We’re hanging some string lights, too!
