Nothing says summer quite like a cheerful, citrusy lemon. This simple DIY lemon wreath is perfect for the season: easy to make, budget friendly, and irresistibly cute.
When I think of lemonade, I picture long summer afternoons—running through sprinklers, gathering with friends on the porch, and cooling off with a tall, tart glass. Lemon accents in home decor capture that sunny, nostalgic feeling, and right now lemon-themed decor is very on-trend for summer.
I originally bought a small lemon wreath at a big-box store a few years ago and loved it so much I hung onto it. Seasonal decor often sells out quickly, though, and I couldn’t find the exact same wreath again. So this year I decided to recreate the look myself—making a slightly larger wreath with a fun twist so you can make one too.
Supplies You Will Need for Your DIY Lemon Wreath
- Faux lemon garlands or individual faux lemons
- Faux greenery stems of your choice (eucalyptus, olive, or mixed greenery work well)
- Grapevine wreath base (mine is 18 inches)
- Floral wire cutter or wire snips
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks (floral wire can be used where extra hold is needed)
- Optional sign or script word (for example, a small “hey” sign to hang from the wreath)
How to Make a Lemon Wreath
Step 1. Prepare your stems and lemons
Begin by cutting apart your garlands or stems with your floral cutter. You don’t need to cut everything at once—start with what you think you’ll use and set aside extras. Keeping some pieces intact helps you visualise placement before committing glue or wire.
Step 2. Add larger greenery first
Place the larger greenery pieces around the grapevine wreath until it looks full and balanced. Work slowly and turn the wreath as you go to check balance from all angles. Secure stems with hot glue and, where needed, wrap a bit of floral wire around the wreath base for extra hold.
Step 3. Position and attach the lemons
Arrange the lemons evenly around the wreath for a clean, classic look, or group them for a clustered, more organic style. Once you’re happy with placement, glue each lemon into place. For heavier or larger pieces, secure with a combination of hot glue and floral wire so they stay put through outdoor use or transport.
Step 4. Fill with accents and trim
Add any smaller lemons, blossoms, or filler stems you like to create depth and visual interest. I used smaller lemons from a secondary garland and a few floral accents that came with it. Be careful not to overdo it—sometimes less is more. Glue these smaller pieces in place and adjust until the wreath reads cohesive and bright.
Step 5. Add a sign and hang
If you want a welcoming touch, attach a small sign or script word to the top of the wreath with floral wire. Secure the wire behind the wreath so it’s hidden. Then hang your wreath on your front door or an interior focal point. It took about 45 minutes to make and cost approximately $30, depending on the supplies you choose.
That’s it—easy peasy, lemon squeezy. A few thoughtful choices in greenery and lemon placement will give your wreath a polished, summer-ready look.
