We’re Moving: Big Project Relocation and New Address

I couldn’t wait until next week to share this major update — I’m too excited to hold back. So here’s the big news: we are moving! We closed on a beautiful new house this morning, still within the same city, and we’ve already started the process of cleaning and painting. Next weekend we’ll move everything into the new place. My mom is coming into town this afternoon to help with the prep work — big thanks to her for pitching in!
A bit of background on how we got here. Our current home — too small for a growing family — has been on the market since September and hasn’t sold yet. I’ve been watching the local real estate market closely for months, keeping an eye on listings and price trends. My husband (Coach) and I made a list of priorities for our next home: four bedrooms, a strong school district, a large backyard, and a few other must-haves. We wanted more space and a location that would be a good long-term fit for our family.
One house kept appearing in my property alerts because its price kept dropping. Eventually I had to see it in person. It turned out to be a foreclosure, which meant extra paperwork and a few added steps in the purchase process, but it also meant a great opportunity for us. We had not planned to buy another house while still owning our current one — absolutely not — but seeing the interior changed everything. We fell in love with the layout and the potential, and we put in an offer. The timing and the price made it a deal we couldn’t pass up. It’s only a few years old and sits in a neighborhood we thought might be out of reach. The extra square footage was an unexpected bonus.
This move is what inspired me to start this blog. I plan to document the home renovation and decorating process from start to finish: the painting, upgrades, design decisions, and small projects that will make this house our home. The interior is mostly the builder’s beige right now — very plain — and there’s so much to do. I can’t wait to personalize each room and share the transformation, including the kitchen remodel, paint choices, storage solutions, and the landscaping we hope to tackle in the large backyard.

Below are photos I found online of the new house. I’ll be sharing updated images as we work through the renovations and make the place ours.

Front of the house — note the steep driveway; that’s the only real drawback I’ve found so far.

A very large backyard with lovely views of the mountains in the distance — perfect for kids, gardening, and outdoor entertaining.

Living room — this is the view when you enter through the front door. It has good light and a comfortable layout to work with.

Kitchen — it needs a lot of attention. Cabinets, countertops, and appliances will be on the renovation list.

Breakfast nook — I love all the windows here; natural light will make this a favorite spot for meals and morning coffee.

Dining room — a flexible space for family dinners and gatherings.

Master bedroom — plenty of space to make a calm, restful retreat.

One of the additional bedrooms — there are three other bedrooms besides the master, which gives us the four bedrooms we were looking for.
So that’s the update: a new house, a long list of improvement projects, and a family ready to get to work. We know it will take time to get everything exactly how we want it, but the journey of renovating and decorating is part of the fun. I’ll be sharing progress photos, practical renovation tips, paint colors, furniture choices, and small DIY projects along the way. Thank you for taking a peek at our new home. Please keep your fingers crossed that our current house sells quickly — the sooner, the better — and stay tuned for regular updates as we turn this house into our home.
