I used Oyster Pearl from Clark+Kensington Paint and Primer in One Satin Enamel for my guest bathroom makeover.
Hello friends! I’ve finished my first painting project of the year—my guest bathroom—and it felt great to check another room off the list.

When we moved into this house almost two years ago, every room—including the garage—was painted the same builder’s beige. I don’t have anything against beige in general, but this particular tone leaned orange and felt dated. Over the last 23 months I’ve painted almost every room in the house, leaving only the two guest bedrooms and the second bathroom. This week I finally tackled that bathroom and gave it a fresh, modern look.

I stopped by Ace Hardware and chose Oyster Pearl from Clark+Kensington’s Paint and Primer in One, Satin Enamel finish. I wanted to replace the flat builder paint with something more durable and easier to clean, and satin enamel felt right for a bathroom. The paint applied smoothly and offered good coverage. I always do two coats for a consistent finish, and this project was no exception.

My shower curtain served as the design starting point, so I wanted a neutral wall color that would allow a few colorful accents—yellows, pinks, maybe a touch of red—to stand out. I’m a fan of gray tones, and Oyster Pearl felt like a sophisticated gray that would anchor the space without overpowering the accent colors.

At first glance while painting over the beige, the new color looked a little blue. That’s something I’ve noticed before: cool grays can read bluer when applied over warm beige until the old color is completely covered. I kept working patiently and applied the second coat. Once the paint dried, the blue undertone was still present but subtle, and I actually like that cool, slightly coastal hint in the finish. On screen it appears more neutral, but in person you can see the nuance in different lighting.

The before-and-after is satisfying—the transformation is subtle but makes the bathroom feel cleaner, fresher, and more intentional. Choosing a paint-and-primer-in-one saved time on prep and helped speed up coverage, while the satin enamel finish added a slight sheen that’s forgiving to light splashes and makes wiping down walls easier.

I’m excited to bring in accent pieces now. I’ve been experimenting with a yellow vase and some small decor items to add warmth and contrast against the cool gray walls. I also plan to frame and hang a few old prints that belonged to my great-grandmother—those heirloom pieces will add personality and warmth to the room.

Final thoughts on the guest bathroom makeover
If you’re planning a bathroom refresh, consider a neutral gray like Oyster Pearl if you want a backdrop that complements colorful accents. Use a satin or eggshell finish for durability and easy cleaning, and don’t be deterred if the first coat looks cooler or bluer over warm tones—two coats usually bring the true color to life. I’ll share more of the finished room soon after I hang the prints and style the shelves. It feels great to have another room coming together.
