Modern wall sconces are appearing everywhere — in living rooms, libraries, dining rooms, bedrooms, bathrooms and even offices. These stylish accent lights brighten a room and give it a polished, finished look.

One of the first fixtures I needed to replace after moving into our new home was the stairwell light. I knew I wanted a double-light brass sconce with linen shades — something classic and warm that would suit the space for years to come.
We removed the previous fixture on moving day. It was a multicolored glass half-dome covered with dead ladybugs, so it didn’t take long to decide it wasn’t coming back. Since I wanted a brass double sconce, I started hunting for the right style within my budget.
Initially the exact style I wanted was out of stock. I found a pricier version that I loved and decided to splurge; we plan to stay in this house for a long time, so investing in a piece I truly liked felt reasonable.

A few weeks after ordering the higher-end fixture, a lower-cost alternative of the same style returned to stock unexpectedly. For curiosity’s sake, I ordered the more affordable version to compare them side by side.
When both arrived, the difference was clear. The more expensive sconce had a richer, more refined brass finish and felt sturdier overall. Still, the budget-friendly option looked great and would have been a perfectly acceptable and attractive choice had it been available initially.

In the end, I kept both fixtures. I installed the more budget-friendly sconce in the stairwell and I’ll use the higher-end piece elsewhere in the house. Both look lovely and have their place.

Quick tip: I used frosted candelabra bulbs in the fixture to reduce harsh shadows on the wall and create a softer, more flattering glow. Choosing the right bulb can make a dramatic difference in how a sconce looks and how comfortable the light feels.
While shopping for sconces I collected a variety of single- and double-light options across price ranges. Below I’ve organized a selection by budget to make it easier to find styles that suit your needs and your wallet.
Contemporary Wall Sconce Lighting for Every Budget
A few years ago I wouldn’t have considered brass for my home, but I’ve come to love the warmth and character of aged brass finishes. They add a subtle sheen and a touch of sophistication—think of it like wearing gold jewelry for your walls.
This brass revival pairs beautifully with a range of interiors, from modern to traditional, and it’s easy to layer with other metals and finishes. Here are curated choices organized by price to help you find the right sconce without endless browsing.

Below are example selections grouped by price range to inspire your search. Numbers correspond to specific styles I liked while shopping.
