Welcome to the finished (well, mostly finished) living room reveal. I finally pulled together the elements I envisioned when we first walked into this house: new pillows, blue accessories, DIY board and batten, a gallery wall, and serene gray paint. Life still happens here—there are toys, popcorn bits, and pillows turned into forts most days—but the overall look feels calm, bright, and intentional.

Below are a few “before” photos to show how far the room has come. When we moved in it was a standard builder beige space—fine, but lacking personality. A fresh paint color and some architectural detail made a dramatic difference.

Seeing the before photos next to the new setup reinforces how much impact paint and a few well-chosen updates can have. I added board and batten to give the walls more dimension, introduced warm wood accents to balance the cool grays and turquoise, and layered textiles for comfort and interest.

Here’s what the living room looks like now—lighter, airier, and more pulled together. The Pottery Barn–inspired slipcovered sofa creates a relaxed foundation while patterned pillows, a textured rug, and turquoise accents bring color and personality.

Living room before and after

I call this a reveal, but it’s definitely a room in progress. Styling evolves over time, and small tweaks will continue—art rearrangements, seasonal accents, and a few finishing details. For now, this feels like a good place to pause and enjoy the results of the hard work.

Below are more photos to give a sense of the space from different angles. You’ll see the stenciled curtains that frame the windows, the gallery wall that adds visual interest above the sofa, and the mix of textures that make the room feel cozy yet sophisticated.

Thank you for taking a tour of the space. I love the way the room feels now—my husband even said it makes the house feel “fancier,” which I’ll take as a compliment. This makeover balanced updates that add character (board and batten, gallery wall) with practical choices (durable fabrics, kid-friendly accessories).

To keep it real, here’s a snapshot of how the living room often looks during everyday life—popcorn, toys, and shoes included. Even on a good day it gets lived-in, and that’s okay. The goal was to design a stylish, comfortable family room that can handle real life.

I had planned to include a full board-and-batten tutorial today, but that would make this post very long. I’ll share the step-by-step how-to in a follow-up post soon. Until then, enjoy the photos and feel free to use any of these ideas for your own living room refresh this season.

Are you planning any updates around your home this spring? What do you think of this living room makeover—any favorite elements?
