I love the stage in a room makeover when the big pieces are in place and it’s time to add the final furniture and finishing touches. The walls are painted, major furnishings are set, and then you start layering in the elements that make the space feel warm and complete.
After years of planning, saving, and slow, intentional decorating, our primary bedroom has finally reached that place—and I’m thrilled with how it’s coming together.

We painted the walls Benjamin Moore Davenport Tan and added new chinoiserie lamps, which quickly made the room feel cozy and traditional. Still, one corner felt unfinished. I’d been using a small floor mirror I brought from our previous house, but it felt undersized for the scale of this room—I’d have to crouch or step way back to see myself fully.
After searching for the right piece to sit between the dresser and the column, I finally found the ideal option: a large leaning mirror that fills the space and elevates the whole corner.

Waiting and saving for a mirror at the right scale paid off—the tall leaner is the perfect finishing touch for this wall, balancing the TV and dresser while adding visual interest.
I’m happy I mounted the TV on the wall as well; our Frame TV now sits flush and cleanly. If you’re curious how to hide cords on a wall-mounted TV, I’ve written a tutorial showing the process. I also plan to add a chunky decorative frame to the TV soon so it will blend even better with the room’s traditional style.
Wondering which mirror I chose? It’s the Capelle Mirror—a nearly 7-foot-tall leaner with a slender, molded frame finished with a scalloped bonnet and notched corners. The graceful shape makes a large-scale mirror feel light and elegant, and it ships with hardware to hang if you prefer it secured to the wall.

At almost seven feet in height, the Capelle Mirror creates a dramatic focal point while maintaining an airy, refined feel. It’s a standout choice for rooms with high ceilings or expansive walls that need vertical emphasis.

Why I Chose a Large Leaning Mirror for Our Bedroom
Our bedroom is quite large, with an attached sitting area and nine-foot ceilings, so scale matters. When a room is expansive, choosing the right-sized furniture and decor is essential to make the space feel intentional rather than sparse. A seven-foot mirror fills tall walls gracefully and brings balance to other large elements like dressers and wall-mounted TVs.
Here are the main reasons I went with a large leaning mirror:
1. They Make the Room Feel Bigger
Even in a cozy, darker-toned room—like ours, painted a deeper brown—a large mirror opens up space visually. Mirrors reflect light and create a sense of depth, which is especially helpful when you want a room to feel larger without changing the layout.
2. They Add Height and Architectural Interest
The tall mirror balances the vertical space between the dresser and the mounted TV. The arched mirror shape and warm gold frame add subtle architectural detail, drawing the eye upward and giving the wall a finished, polished look.

3. They’re Perfect for Getting Ready
A full-length mirror in the bedroom is incredibly practical. If your closet can’t accommodate a mirror or you prefer a dedicated spot for outfit checks, a leaning floor mirror gives you a clear, full-body view for dressing, footwear, and final styling before you leave the house.

Where to Place a Leaning Floor Mirror in a Bedroom
A leaning floor mirror is flexible and easy to move, but I recommend securing larger mirrors to the wall for safety. Here are popular placement options that work well:
- In an empty corner: A leaning mirror fills unused corners without overpowering the room.
- Next to a dresser: This creates a functional dressing area and a styled vignette.
- Near a window: Positioning a mirror to reflect natural light brightens and energizes the space.
- Across from the bed: Mirrors can reflect a well-layered bed, adding depth and doubling the visual impact of textiles and artwork.
In our room, the mirror sits between the dresser and a column, and it complements the tall ceilings while filling the vertical gap perfectly.

Styling Around a Large Leaning Mirror
Keep the styling around a leaning mirror simple and relaxed so the mirror remains the focal point. Add a few softening elements to break up the mirror’s hard lines and create a lived-in, layered feel.
For our corner, I placed a lush green peace lily in a woven basket beside the mirror. The plant introduces texture and a natural element that softens the look and keeps the arrangement from feeling too formal. Greenery is an effortless way to add life to a vignette.

Other simple styling ideas:
- A woven basket for blankets or storage
- A small stool or bench
- A stack of coffee-table books or a decorative tray
- A large potted plant for height and texture
The goal is an easy, uncluttered look so the mirror remains the star and the corner feels considered, not crowded.
More Full-Length Mirrors
If you’re shopping for a bedroom mirror, there are great full-length options across a range of styles and budgets. Choosing a mirror that matches your room’s scale and style will instantly elevate the space.

The Primary Bedroom Progress So Far
If you’ve been following along, here’s what we’ve done in the primary bedroom:

- Adding a large leaning mirror (this update)
Next up: building a bold frame for the Frame TV, adding trim molding to the walls, and layering in more artwork and styling details. I’m aiming to finish the room soon and can’t wait to share the completed space.
