Home goals are my way of keeping home projects moving forward. I hope this post inspires you to set goals and make a plan for your own home.
I can’t believe it’s time for another home goals update. Writing these posts every four months forces me to pause, take stock of what’s been accomplished, and plan the next steps for each room.
I used to set goals once a year and then forget them by December. Revisiting goals regularly—quarterly—keeps them fresh and actionable.

My Home Goals for 2022, Part 2
At the start of the year I focused on the dining room with plans to develop ideas for the butler’s pantry and laundry room as well. For January–April my goal was simple: create plans for each room. That’s done, and now I’m moving into execution.
1. Complete the Dining Room Makeover
The dining room makeover is nearly finished. I’m waiting on the rug, lamps, and lamp shades. Once they arrive, I’ll share the full reveal—hoping to finish by late May or early June.
You can view the original dining room design plan and the step-by-step progress posts for more detail. I’ve made a few changes from the original plan: I selected a different wallpaper and painted the lower wall color slightly differently (Oyster Bay instead of Carolina Gull). I may touch that up later, but living with it for a bit helped me make that decision.

Sources (items used in the design plan shown for reference): gingham curtains, green wallpaper, wicker lamps, pleated shades, ornate brass mirror, brass chandelier, block print fabric, jute rug, end chair. Trim paint color used on doors and trim: Card Room Green.

Remaining items to finish the dining room:
- New rug — currently waiting for delivery
- New lamps and lampshades — waiting for delivery
- Painted outlet covers (completed)
- Painted trim (completed)
- Wallpaper hung (completed)
- Large brass mirror hung (completed)
- New light fixture and sconces (installed)
- Trim tape added to the drapes and rods hung (completed)
- Seat covers replaced (completed)
I waited until March to order lamps, shades, and the rug so they fit the budget. Once everything arrives I’ll share the reveal photos and a full source list.
2. Start and Finish the Butler’s Pantry Makeover
The butler’s pantry is a small pass-through next to the dining room. I planned to start this makeover earlier, but budget constraints delayed the work. I briefly considered an inexpensive countertop replacement, but I prefer using real marble for durability and beauty. The countertop is the main budget item; once that’s resolved the rest of the work will be straightforward.

Because the space is compact, I expect we can complete this makeover quickly once funds are available—ideally by the end of August.
Butler’s pantry to-do list:
- Replace the countertop — ideally with marble
- Paint cabinets a soft blue (Benjamin Moore “Little Falls”)
- Hang the wallpaper already selected
- Replace any broken cabinet glass panes

3. Start and Finish the Laundry Room Makeover
I’ve developed plans for the laundry room but have been weighing flooring options. I love the classic marble checkerboard look and explored products that would work over the existing tile—vinyl, peel-and-stick, paint, and faux tiles. I think I’ve found a suitable product to achieve the look without a full tile replacement. I’ll share the final plan in a dedicated post soon.

Laundry room phase 1 to-dos:
- Add a checkerboard faux tile floor to mimic marble
- Refresh countertops using countertop paint
- Add beadboard paneling for texture
- Paint walls and beadboard
- Add a simple window treatment
- Update the light fixture
A full gut job—replacing tile, countertops, and sink—would be ideal, but for phase 1 I plan to cosmetically update the space so it looks fresh and functions better while staying on budget.
Once these rooms are complete, I’ll focus on bedrooms and other spaces. Progress in a home happens in phases; I’m hopeful to accomplish several makeovers this year.
I’m intentionally slow with projects. Two years into living here, I’ve been steadily working room by room. I’m a one-person team on a budget, and that slower pace has been valuable: it gives time to live with each space and refine decisions rather than rushing into changes I might regret.
What are your home goals this year? Which rooms are you planning to refresh? Share your plans and priorities so we can encourage one another.
