This charming boxwood and bicycle spring wreath is a delightful way to welcome spring and add personality to your front door.
With spring on the way, it felt like the perfect time to refresh my front-door decor with a seasonal wreath. I love seeing a seasonal wreath when I pull up to the house — it always puts a smile on my face.
Last year’s peony wreath remains one of my favorites, but since that one ended up in the kitchen, my front door was begging for something new. I started the project with the idea of incorporating a small bicycle, and after a bit of searching I found the ideal piece at a local store: a petite fence-and-bike accent that fit perfectly on a wreath frame. It wasn’t colorful enough for my taste, but a quick coat of paint solved that problem.

I especially loved the tiny wooden handlebar detail on the bicycle. I also pictured a small basket filled with flowers attached to the bike, but I couldn’t find a pre-made mini basket that worked. So I improvised and made one from rope and hot glue. The result was simple, playful, and surprisingly sturdy.
If you want to recreate this wreath, keep reading for a clear, step-by-step guide. The project is easy to personalize, and it only took me about an hour from start to finish.
Supplies needed for a Boxwood & Bicycle Spring Wreath
1. Boxwood wreath – I used a faux boxwood wreath so it would stand up to outdoor conditions, but a real boxwood wreath is also an option if you prefer.
2. Small fence & bicycle accent – pick a decorative bike or fence piece that fits nicely on a wreath frame. If it’s neutral, you can paint it to match your color scheme.
3. Paint – any craft paint in the color of your choice. I used Wythe Blue (Benjamin Moore) but any durable craft paint works fine.
4. Small craft paint brush
5. Thin rope – for making a small basket to attach to the bike.
6. Small faux floral stems – choose scaled-down blooms and greenery so they fit the basket and don’t overpower the wreath.
7. Hot glue gun and glue sticks
8. Floral wire and wire cutters – to secure the bike/fence to the wreath base.
9. Ribbon – for a finishing bow; wired ribbon works well for shaping a full bow.

How to Create a Boxwood & Bicycle Spring Wreath
1. Paint the bike accent
If your metal bike or fence piece isn’t the color you want, paint it first. I painted only the frame and left the wheels, seat and handles as they were for contrast. To protect the fence backing from stray paint, tuck a sheet of paper between the parts while you paint.

2. Make a rope basket
I couldn’t find a small enough basket that would fit the bike, so I made one from thin rope and hot glue. Start by gluing a tight circle for the base, then keep spiraling the rope upward with hot glue to build the sides. Periodically hold the basket up to the bike to check the size and shape.

3. Add flowers to the basket
Trim small faux floral stems to fit inside the basket and secure them with hot glue. Use a mix of small blooms and buds with a little greenery to create a natural, full look without adding too much weight.

4. Attach the basket to the bike
Use hot glue to bond the finished rope basket securely to the bike’s front. Hold it in place until the glue sets to ensure a solid attachment.
5. Secure the bike and fence to the wreath
Position the bike and fence over the boxwood wreath where it looks best, then use floral wire to fasten it tightly to the wreath form. Wrap the wire on the back side so it’s hidden from view and trim any excess.
6. Add a bow
Finish with a ribbon bow to balance the composition. Wired ribbon is ideal because it holds its shape well. Attach the bow with floral wire or hot glue, and tuck a few sprigs of greenery behind it if desired.

That’s it — your wreath is ready to hang. The whole project took me about an hour, and the result is a playful, welcoming wreath that holds up well outdoors. It’s a little extra, but I love its personality. My husband’s reaction was, “Wow, that’s a heavy-duty wreath!” — and I’ll take that as a compliment.
