Learn 10 practical ways to use Young Living Purification essential oil around your home
Hello friends — it’s been a while since I wrote about one of my favorite things: essential oils. You’ve likely heard a lot about them; they’ve become very popular for home use. I’ve been using them with my family for over a year, and they’ve changed how we handle everyday household concerns.
I paused sharing last fall after guidance from a government agency changed how essential oil companies and users can discuss uses. I removed and reworded several earlier posts to stay compliant. That happened right before our newest baby arrived, so I didn’t get a chance to update everything then. Now that I’ve reviewed and refreshed my posts, I’m excited to share again. Even when I wasn’t writing about them, I kept using these small bottles every day — they’re a regular part of our household routine.

Today I want to focus on Purification, the very first oil I purchased. I actually bought it because my husband’s older bulldog had a strong, persistent odor that made the house smell. I tried a bottle of Purification by placing a few drops on cotton balls and tucking them into vents — it made a noticeable difference. Now I usually add a couple of drops to a diffuser for the same effect: it helps neutralize unpleasant smells and freshens the air.
Purification is a blend that includes citronella, lemongrass, rosemary, tea tree (melaleuca alternifolia), lavandin and myrtle. Its scent profile and cleansing aroma make it a versatile choice for household use.
Purification® can be used on the skin to help cleanse and soothe. When diffused, it helps to purify and refresh the air by reducing common disagreeable odors, such as cigarette smoke or lingering cooking smells.
The many uses of Purification
Below are practical, easy ways to use Purification around your home. Always follow product labels and recommendations for dilution and topical use.
- Diffuse 4–6 drops after cooking strong-smelling foods (fish, garlic, etc.) to neutralize odours and freshen the air.
- Dab a properly diluted drop on a blemish to gently cleanse and soothe the skin. (Follow dilution guidance for topical use.)
- Apply a diluted drop to an insect bite to help calm the skin and reduce the sensation of irritation.
- Make a natural bug repellent: combine 10 drops each of Purification and citronella oil with 4 oz. of water in a spray bottle, shake well, and test on a small area before use.
- Place a cotton ball with 2 drops of Purification inside a shoe overnight to neutralize stubborn odors.

- Combine Purification with lemon (diluted) and gently rub the outside of the throat for a comforting, aromatic application.
- Put a couple of drops on a cotton ball and tuck it in the car’s air vents to keep the cabin smelling fresh between cleanings.
- Apply a diluted drop to a blister (as appropriate) to support gentle cleansing and protection of the area.
- Add 10 drops of Purification to 4 oz. of water in a spray bottle and mist laundry that has sat too long in the washer to refresh fabrics before tumbling or hanging to dry.
- Keep a small spray bottle with a light Purification-and-water mix in the guest bathroom as a simple, chemical-free alternative to aerosol air fresheners.
