With less than a week until Christmas, I wanted to share photos of my office before the holiday arrived. This little corner became my favorite spot to bring seasonal cheer without overwhelming the rest of the house.

I actually set this tree up before Thanksgiving so there would be at least one tree visible from the front of our house. In our previous home I had a single large window in the dining room for a big tree, but in this house there are six smaller front windows, so I chose one window and a cozy adjacent corner in the office.

The flocked Christmas tree I moved from the old living room fits perfectly in this nook. Its heavy flocking and organic-looking branches give the tree a rustic, snow-kissed appearance that feels both classic and soft.

To keep the look cohesive, I decorated the tree in the same blush and brass palette that I use throughout the office. A cream-and-taupe plaid ribbon I already owned tied everything together — sometimes a single piece of ribbon can define an entire look. Over the years I’ve swapped ribbon and added a bow for the topper, but the main palette has stayed the same because it complements the room beautifully.

I didn’t start this space with a full set of ornaments, but leftovers and a few carefully chosen pieces made the tree feel complete. A pack of small pink glass ornaments I had on hand matched my curtains and complemented the larger blush-and-gold ornaments I added later. Mixing small and large ornaments in the same color family helps a small tree look full and intentional.

I also added several heavier glass ornaments with a soft blush or rose-gold hue. Their weight and finish catch the light and add a more polished feel next to the rustic flocking. If you find an ornament you love, consider buying a few — seasonal favorites can sell out quickly.

Curtains and textiles are another easy way to make holiday decor feel cohesive. The floral blush-and-gray curtains in this office read soft and seasonal against the plaid ribbon and gold accents, creating a layered, feminine look that still feels professional enough for a workspace.

Styling tips for a small office tree:

  • Choose a cohesive color palette — blush, brass, cream and taupe give a warm, feminine glow.
  • Mix sizes and finishes — combine small glass ornaments with a few larger, statement pieces.
  • Use ribbon or garland to add texture and tie the tree in with other room elements.
  • Include a special topper or bow to create a polished focal point.
  • If you want the look of a metal tree collar but don’t want to buy a new one, consider spray painting an existing collar for a quick transformation.

One simple DIY I did was update an older galvanized tree collar with vintage gold spray paint. I used Rust‑Oleum vintage gold spray paint to achieve the brass look I wanted — an inexpensive and effective way to get the warmth of brass without replacing the entire piece.

When unpacking decor, I rediscovered a piece of seasonal art titled “Wonderful Counselor” that fit perfectly between the windows above my desk. The soft colors complement the rest of the room and add a thoughtful, layered touch to the holiday vignette.

The end result is a small, elegant office tree that brings light and cheer to my workspace without taking over. I love seeing the twinkle of lights from the street at night, and having a cozy, feminine space to work in during the holidays makes the season feel even more special.

I’m tempted to keep this display up well into January—or even February—because it adds so much warmth to the room. Do you ever let your holiday decor linger a little longer in your workspace?

My DIY Tree Collar Update

The one DIY project in this space involved the tree collar. I had an old galvanized collar from a few years ago when metal collars first became popular. While the galvanized look was charming then, I wanted a warmer brass finish to better match the rest of the office.

Rather than buy a new brass collar, I spray painted the galvanized collar with vintage gold spray paint. The transformation was simple and inexpensive, and the finished look closely resembles pricier brass options. It’s an easy weekend refresh that elevates the whole display.
