Complete colorful inspiration for a feminine bathroom refresh without ripping out walls or taking on major DIY. Balancing playful, youthful touches with grown-up function, here are ideas for a pretty, colorful girls’ bathroom makeover that also serves as a welcoming guest bath.
This bathroom pulls triple duty: it’s our girls’ bathroom, an overnight guest bath and the go-to for visitors. Living in a two-bathroom house means I can’t hide every little mess, but it also means fewer rooms to maintain—so I try to keep the sink clear of toothpaste and the toilet paper stocked and tidy.
When we moved in seven years ago I made simple, budget-friendly updates to take the space out of the builder-grade beige look. I hung a few Norman Rockwell prints that I inherited from my great-grandmother, upgraded the cabinet and fixture hardware, and painted the walls a soft Oyster Pearl from Clark + Kensington. The cabinets were painted Ominous Cloud by the same brand to create a cohesive, calm palette.

A simple DIY frame around the builder-grade mirror gave it a custom, finished look that I still love. Over time, though, I started to feel that the pops of red I’d added weren’t right for the space. When you look out from inside the bathroom the adjacent hallway and cabinets present a lot of gray tones, and I wanted something softer and more feminine to honor my two girls while welcoming guests.

The Girls’ Bathroom Refresh Mood Board
I always begin with a mood board so I can see how colors, textures and fixtures work together. As I arranged pieces, I changed my mind a few times—items that looked good isolated didn’t always pair well in the full composition. The floral artwork eventually became the inspiration point and helped guide the palette toward soft pinks, warm whites and gentle pattern.

Mood board highlights: coral-pink bath towels, porcelain-pink bath mat, schoolhouse-style lighting for the mirror and ceiling, a feminine floral canvas, a patterned shower curtain that complements the palette, a “Just Be You” wooden sign, and a decorative vinyl floor tile in a Naples motif.
If you’d like to make your own mood board, it’s a great way to test combinations before committing to paint or tile.
Plans for the Girls’ Bathroom Refresh
Here’s the step-by-step plan to transform this small bathroom without a major renovation:
1. Patch the hole in the wall left by the old toilet paper holder and repaint the walls in Simply White by Benjamin Moore. This white has a subtle warmth that coordinates well with the existing cabinetry and trim, and it will brighten the room without feeling stark.
2. Replace the outdated light over the mirror and the ceiling “boob” light with schoolhouse-style fixtures. A three-light schoolhouse vanity fixture will add classic, feminine detail and tie in with the single schoolhouse fixture already in the hallway.

3. Hang the floral canvas on the wall opposite the mirror—the artwork was the jumping-off point for the refresh and brings warmth and a feminine focal point into the room.
4. Replace the red accents with pink towels and a coordinating pink bath mat. These small textile swaps shift the mood from Americana to a softer, more modern femininity while staying cheerful and age-appropriate for kids and guests alike.
5. Swap out the broken toilet paper holder for a clean, sturdy replacement and add a few wall hooks so the girls actually have a place to hang towels and robes. Practical updates like these make daily life tidier and more functional.

6. Keep the shower curtain currently in place—it’s a pattern that still plays nicely with the new palette and has held up well since I found it secondhand. Its geometry pairs nicely with the floral artwork and the pink textiles.

7. One of the most exciting updates will be installing patterned vinyl tile over the existing beige floor. I chose a Naples-inspired pattern because it coordinates with the shower curtain and artwork and adds a durable, stylish foundation that feels like a much bigger renovation without the cost or mess.
8. Add a small wooden “Just Be You” sign as a daily reminder for my daughters—a simple, positive message that’s both decorative and meaningful.
9. Fresh flowers or a small faux arrangement will finish the space, adding life and a final feminine touch.
I expect to complete this refresh in just a few weekends. With a few strategic swaps—paint, lighting, textiles, hardware and new vinyl flooring—the bathroom will feel brand new and much more tailored to our family’s style.
