DIY No-Sew Pom-Pom Trim Nursery Curtains

Two words in the DIY world always make me smile: “no” and “sew.” Put them together and I’m instantly interested. I collect no-sew ideas and try projects around the house whenever I can, because if a glue gun will do the job, I’m all for it.

I can sew a straight line, kind of, but given the choice I’ll reach for hot glue every time. When I shared the inspiration board for my daughter’s woodland nursery a few weeks ago, I had a few fabric swatches earmarked for curtains. As I shopped, however, my direction shifted. Some fabric looked brighter in Etsy listings than in the online swatches, so I pivoted and reassessed what I really wanted.

Going back through my pinned inspiration, I noticed my favorite nursery photos all featured simple white or cream window treatments. That clarity led me to choose bright, airy cotton voile panels for the baby’s room, but I still wanted a small, playful detail to personalize them.

I searched for ready-made panels and originally found a set I liked at World Market, which were the right price and length. They were temporarily out of stock when I shopped, though, so I didn’t wait. Instead I picked up a charming set of simply shabby chic ruffled curtains from Target. They weren’t exactly what I planned, but they worked—and with a few simple changes they became perfect.

I’m not a huge ruffle fan, but the soft ruffle added a delicate, feminine touch without overwhelming the room’s woodland theme. The panels came in an 84-inch length only, so I released the bottom hem and pressed the fabric flat to add a little extra length visually. It made them hang more naturally even if they’re not floor-grazing yet.

The curtain rod and rings are also from Target, and they complement the soft look I wanted for the nursery. I decided to add a subtle pop of color with mini pom pom trim along the panel edges. I ordered a pink pom pom trim from Etsy and attached it with a hot glue gun—fast and easy.

To apply the trim, I worked in small sections: add a little glue, press the trim into place, and go slowly to use just enough glue for a secure hold without saturation. The whole process took about 45 minutes for both panels. I don’t plan to launder these curtains frequently, but if the trim ever came loose I could reattach it with more glue. For me, the time saved by avoiding the sewing machine made this a worthwhile no-sew solution.

I love the cheerful accent the pom pom trim adds to the clean white panels. It keeps the curtains light and airy while introducing a tiny, playful color detail that ties into other nursery elements.

A friend sewed a sweet pillow cover for the room featuring the baby’s monogram, which will sit alongside these curtains and help establish the color palette. I adore the way the monogrammed pillow, the soft voile curtains, and the pom pom trim all work together to create a gentle, welcoming nursery look.

I’m keeping the baby’s name private on the blog, but sharing her initials felt like a fun sneak peek. With the curtains installed and a few decorative touches completed, one more nursery task is checked off my list.

Next up: painting furniture. I’ve been working around a busy schedule (and a birthday celebration to plan), but I hope to finish the painting while my partner is home for Thanksgiving. For now, the room already feels softer and more finished thanks to a simple no-sew trim update that added big charm with very little effort.
