Gold, Blue and Brown Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas

Do you love non-traditional Christmas decor? Try a sophisticated gold, blue and brown Christmas theme this year. Get inspired to create a warm, cozy holiday home today.

Over the years I’ve changed my holiday color schemes more than once. I rarely decorate with lots of red, preferring blues, greens and neutrals, and I enjoy pulling inspiration from seasonal trends to create fresh palettes. This year I’m embracing navy and blue tones, warmed with camel, caramel and brown accents, and brightened with classic gold and white.

Christmas Tree Decor from the Past

A few years ago I decorated a nostalgic plaid tree that felt perfectly balanced—just a hint of red, plenty of greens and traditional texture. It was one of my favorite looks because it felt cozy without being overpowering.

This season I’m returning to my favorite blues and greens and adding brown, camel and caramel accents—plus a few dried orange slices for texture. I’ll still use gold and white as staples to keep the look polished and festive.

Brown is definitely trending in home decor right now. Introducing rich browns and warm caramel tones into holiday decorations makes spaces feel layered and modern while still comforting. I’ll reuse many favorite white, gold and blue ornaments I already own and add a selection of brown and blue pieces to complete the palette.

I’ve already started receiving a few festive items I ordered over the past month. Shopping early is important for holiday decor—popular pieces sell out or increase in price closer to December. Planning ahead ensures you can assemble the look you want without last-minute compromises.

Plans for Brown and Blue Christmas Tree Decor

I always design the tree first; the tree sets the tone for the rest of the room. To visualize the scheme I create a design board showing the key elements together—stockings, garlands, ribbon, ornaments and accent decor. Seeing everything in one place helps me refine color balance and textures before purchasing.

Here’s the vision for my living room this season: an evergreen tree layered with gold and white ornaments as anchors, navy and blue glass ornaments for depth, and velvet brown ornaments and ribbon for warmth. I’ll weave real-touch garland with gold bells along the console and add mini wreaths or boxwood topiaries for greenery. For finishing touches I’ll use blue-and-white nativity pieces, metallic candles, textured throw pillows in navy, caramel and bronze, and a natural wood bowl or tray on the console to collect ornaments and small accents.

Source ideas for this scheme (examples): white and gold stockings, blue cable-knit stockings, realistic garland, gold bells, small wreath accents, an oversized console table, decorative lamps and mirrors, woven baskets, ginger jars, boxwood topiaries, brown and caramel velvet ribbons, blue velvet ornaments, frosted copper ornaments, mercury-glass baubles, tree topper bows, a basket-style tree collar and dried orange slices for natural fragrance and texture.

To help the tree feel intentional I’ll buy a few rolls of coordinating ribbon and a set of matching ornaments. I’m reusing trusted white and gold ornaments I’ve had for years and adding new blue and brown pieces for contrast. I also ordered remote-controlled clip-on candles for the branches—those tiny lights give a warm glow and can be set on a timer, which is convenient for busy holiday evenings.

I’ll return to update this post with photos once the living room is fully decorated. In the meantime, planning carefully and mixing old favorites with a few new pieces makes it easy to create a fresh, cohesive holiday look.
