Fall Decorating Ideas for Home & Porch 2022

Gather fresh ideas for your home with these fall decorating ideas for 2022. Blend new and beloved cozy pieces, layer warm colors and textures, and transition your rooms smoothly into autumn.

Last year was the first time I went all-in on fall decorating, and I loved how simple and cozy the house felt. The look was a calm bridge from summer into the holiday season. This year I’ll keep much of the same approach, adding a few new accents to keep things feeling fresh without doing a complete overhaul.

I create design boards to preview how items work together before I buy anything. That helps me shop more intentionally and avoid impulse purchases.

Rather than replacing everything each season, I lean on year‑round pieces and supplement them with seasonal accents. Invest in classic, versatile pieces that you’ll reuse for years—less clutter, more thoughtful styling.

Below I’m sharing the vision boards for several rooms in my home to spark ideas for your own fall decorating. This approach focuses on texture, a warm autumn palette, and a few meaningful new items to elevate what you already own.

The Fall Living Room

For the living room, I’m mixing pieces I already have with a few new picks. New textured pillows—think chunky knits and embroidered lumbar cushions—add immediate warmth. I’m also planning to add new seating and an ottoman for extra comfort and a slightly refreshed layout.

I still love the Palna pillow covers I’ve used for years, but I’ll layer in a chunky cable‑knit pillow and a blue‑and‑taupe embroidered lumbar pillow to introduce depth and seasonal color. Large artisan vases filled with golden autumn leaf stems are a favorite repeat—I’ll use those again this year because their warm tones are perfect for fall.

One of the easiest, most impactful updates is changing the art displayed on a Frame TV. It’s affordable and instantly changes the room’s mood. I’ve collected a selection of warm, fall‑themed images to rotate through the season.

I’ll tuck in blue, green, or neutral pumpkins here and there, swap in fall‑toned throw blankets, and change a few picture frames to complete the living room refresh.

The Fall Dining Room

My dining room recently received a full makeover, so this season will be fun to style. I chose a color palette and finishes that transition well between seasons, and now I’m excited to layer in fall accents to see how they complement the refreshed space.

I’ve already added pumpkin salad plates, which instantly add a seasonal touch to the table. Next I’ll focus on a centerpiece, coordinating chargers and linens, and a mix of faux and natural elements for an inviting autumn table.

Fall in the Kitchen

The kitchen gets small but meaningful changes: I swap the scalloped frames for seasonal printable art, add a runner, and introduce a few fall stems or a seasonal lamp on the counter or island. These subtle touches make the kitchen feel festive without overwhelming the everyday functionality.

I’ll place a few pretty fall stems on the island or table and use simple kitchen touches—seasonal art and textured textiles—to complete the look.

Fall is my favorite time to redecorate because texture, cozy layers, and warm colors make the home feel especially inviting. I typically do more for fall than for spring and summer, but the result is a welcoming backdrop for the holidays ahead.
