I can’t believe we’re already more than halfway through the year — and half a year into living in our new home! At the start of the year I made a conscious choice to scale back on seasonal decorating and DIY crafts and focus instead on making our house truly feel like our home: a place that reflects our family and what we love.
For the first time I set just three quarterly home goals, each focused on a single space, rather than a long list for the entire year. My plan was to review and refresh those goals every quarter. It’s working: the living room is complete, and the office and the girls’ room are nearly finished. Just a few small tasks remain before I move on to the next spaces.
I’m a bit late sharing this update, but better late than never. If you’re curious about the progress from earlier in the year, you can revisit my goals from January and April, or see where we started in our “Our New Home” post. Stay tuned — I’ll share which room is next on my list!

How did I do with my goals from January–June?
Leftover Home Goals for 2020 (January–March)
1. Light Fixtures
- Hallway wall sconce in the stairwell: Done — and I gathered several stylish sconce options that work at many budgets.
- Entryway fixture: Replaced just a few weeks ago — it transformed the foyer.
- Overhead light in the office: This is on hold until we have a contractor in for other work, since an electrician will already be scheduled. Likely early 2021.
2. The Office
- Window treatments for the French doors: I ordered bamboo blinds. They were on backorder but are now expected to arrive in early August.
Overall I’m pleased — most items on this list are complete or nearly complete. Setting smaller, focused goals instead of an overwhelming list has helped me make steady progress.
Home Goals for 2020 (April–June)
1. Girls’ Bedroom & Bathroom Makeover

Click/Tap the images on the original post to shop the girls’ bedroom and bathroom items.
- Paint bedroom walls: Completed using Pink Ground by Farrow & Ball.
- Bathroom: Instead of painting Shoji White, I chose to wallpaper the bathroom — it turned out gorgeous.
- Accent wall: The wallpaper in the bathroom serves as a beautiful accent.
- Bunk/loft beds: Purchased and installed — the girls love their new beds.
- Bedding: We selected zippered bedding that works perfectly for bunk beds.
- Dresser: The tall dresser I had in mind didn’t fit, so the girls are sharing the dresser we already owned for now.
- Decor: I’ve reused several existing pieces and still plan to add a few more finishing touches.
- Window treatments: Curtains need hemming — still on the to-do list.
- Ceiling fan and bathroom light: Replaced with updated fixtures — done.
Grade for the girls’ room: A-. We accomplished a lot, though a few finishing details remain. Those items will move into my July–September goals.

2. Finish the Office and Share the Reveal
- Bamboo blinds for the doors: Ordered and awaiting delivery. Once installed, I’ll share the full office reveal.
3. Complete and Share the Living Room
- Hide TV cords behind the wall: Done.
- Final piece of decor: Instead of wall art, we added a faux fiddle-leaf fig to fill the corner beautifully.
- Hang TV above the mantel: Done.
- Style bookshelves: Done, following simple styling formulas.
- Hang curtains and add gallery wall: Completed — both transformed the space.

Grade for the living room: A+. It’s finished and feels like a cohesive, comfortable space we love.
BONUS: I ordered a new light fixture for our eat-in kitchen area and can’t wait to install and share it.
Home Goals for 2020 (July–September)
Here are the three rooms I’ll focus on through September.
1. Finish the Girls’ Bedroom and Bathroom
A few final touches remain to complete this makeover:
- Finish decorating with pieces we already own
- Paint the window seat: Using Simply White
- Hem the curtains
- Decide on a paint color for the bathroom/shower room
- Replace the toilet paper holder to match the new towel ring and hooks
2. Add Personality to the Kitchen
The kitchen doesn’t need a major renovation, but it does need color, texture, and personality to complement the navy living room. I’m aiming for a coastal vibe with seagrass texture, blue-green hues, and warm wood tones.
- Custom window treatment for the sink window, using a botanical fabric.
- Install the new kitchen light over the table.
- Replace or update cabinets knobs — all 42 of them — likely with brass knobs or a spray-painted solution.
- Add a pendant over the island and more wall decor.
- Add a runner in front of the stove and a rug under the table.
- Install bamboo blinds on the French doors.
- Replace counter stools with something new and fun.
- Extras to consider: curtains, a tile backsplash, or painting the pantry door or island a bold color.
I’ll share a mood board for the kitchen soon. I’ve been collecting inspiration for years and can’t wait to bring this look to life.

3. Finally Share the Office Reveal
Once the bamboo blinds arrive and I install them, I’ll publish the full office reveal with photos and styling tips.
And that’s the plan for the next two months — close out a couple of rooms and add finishing touches to the kitchen. Keeping the goal list small and focused helps me finish what I start instead of jumping from project to project. I’m itching to begin the master bedroom and garage makeovers, but those will wait until I finish the rooms already in progress.
