Add a little nautical charm to your living space with these simple coastal summer mantel decor ideas. Featuring DIY beach canvas art, blue & white starfish, a textured sailor’s knot, and cheerfully striped sailboats, this mantel brings seasonal coastal character whether you live near the shore or simply dream of setting sail.
Whether you live close to the beach or far inland, a summer mantel is an easy way to introduce coastal character into your home. With a few key pieces and thoughtful placement, you can create a breezy, relaxed vignette that feels fresh and inviting all season long.

This season I didn’t have a lot of time to stage a new mantel, so I pulled together pieces I already owned and a handful of items I’d purchased earlier in the year. The result is a layered, collected look that still feels intentional. If you’re short on time, working with what you have — and adding a couple of fresh accents — is the easiest path to a pulled-together mantel.
A quick note: a few pieces are newly added to my collection, but most of the accents have been in my decor stash. Mixing older items with a few new finds gives a mantel authenticity and keeps the overall look from feeling too staged.

Color and texture are the heart of this mantel. Turquoise and soft blues instantly read as coastal, and pairing them with white creates that crisp summer feeling. Incorporate natural textures — think rope, weathered wood, rattan, and woven baskets — to deepen the nautical vibe. A textured sailor’s knot or a small sailboat accent adds playful detail without overwhelming the arrangement.
Anchoring the arrangement with art is a reliable styling trick. I used a DIY framed canvas print based on a beach photograph I took as the centerpiece. Large-scale art provides a focal point and sets the tone, while smaller objects around it create balance. If you don’t have a custom piece, a framed print, a mirror with a simple frame, or a weathered wooden sign can work the same way.

Here are a few practical styling tips you can apply to any mantel: group items in odd numbers for visual interest, vary heights to create movement across the shelf, and keep a cohesive color palette so everything reads as part of the same story. Don’t be afraid to layer — place a small jar or stack of books in front of a larger piece to add depth.
I love adding organic green elements, too. In this vignette I used bay leaf topiaries to bring life and structure to the display. Faux greenery is a durable, low-maintenance option that keeps the mantel looking fresh throughout the summer.

Small decorative objects — like starfish, a mason jar in a soft blue, or striped pillows on nearby seating — extend the coastal theme beyond the mantel and help the room feel cohesive. When choosing accents, opt for a range of textures: glossy ceramics, matte wood, and woven rope will all reflect light differently and add richness to the composition.

If you want to recreate this look, start with a statement art piece, add tall anchors like topiaries or lamps at each end, and fill the center with medium and small accents. Keep your palette to two or three complementary colors — for example, turquoise, navy, and white — and repeat those colors in multiple pieces to create harmony.
I hope this mantel inspires you to bring out some summer decor of your own. Simple changes — swapping out a few pillows, introducing one or two watery hues, or adding a nautical knot or shell — can transform a room quickly and affordably. I’ll be sharing more photos in my summer home tour soon, so stay tuned for that!
Have a great day!
