Summer Mantel Decor Ideas for a Fresh Seasonal Look

Yay! A new season is here, and with it a fresh look for my mantel and living room. I wanted something relaxed and simple for summer—a look that feels light, airy, and easy to live with during the busiest months.

Summer brings so many things I love: pool days, late nights, ice cream dates, and lake weekends. Yet it also comes with a looser schedule and the reality of kids being home all day. With that in mind, I aimed for decor that feels effortless and calm, so our space can feel restful even when life gets a little chaotic.

I had a small window of time and popped into Target hoping for inspiration—and I found a few great pieces that inspired my simple summer mantel. I don’t always strike gold in the Hearth and Hand by Magnolia section, but this time I found beautiful faux dogwood stems that looked surprisingly realistic for store stems.

Dogwood blooms always make me smile because they remind me of my grandmother, who had dogwood trees in her yard. She saved a newspaper clipping about the “story of the Dogwoods,” and I’ve treasured that memory since childhood. Seeing these stems brought back that warm nostalgia.

In the store, the stems were displayed in simple glass vases—something I already had at home—so I recreated that look on my mantel. Pairing delicate stems with clear glass keeps the arrangement airy and fresh, perfect for summer mantel decor.

I also discovered a bright green locust garland that immediately felt summery. The fresh green color added just the right pop of life across the mantel. The locust texture is light and cheerful—great for a summer vignette—and it pairs nicely with natural textures and navy accents.

One piece I’d been admiring for a while is a large wood-framed mirror. I finally saw it in person at a friend’s house and was sold—the warm wood frame and the way it reflects light make a room feel more open and inviting. I put one on the mantel and loved the effect: the mirror brightens the space and adds some visual depth. It’s simple, timeless, and may stay there for a while.

A casual “home” pillow hopped into my cart as I left Target—I’m a sucker for natural textures and navy for summer. It added the right mix of neutral warmth and coastal color to my living room seating. I also found a reversible sign with “let’s stay in” and “let’s go out” sides that felt perfectly summer-appropriate; it captures the tug between relaxing at home and spending long, sunny days outside.

Most of the other pieces in my living room were already part of my collection: neutral throw pillows, layered textures, and versatile decor that transition from season to season. I rotate certain cushions to the front to give each season its own feel without overhauling everything. On this trip I also spotted neutral tassel oversized pillows that would be a great option if you’re looking to add summer-ready texture and softness to your sofa.

Overall, my goal was a simple summer mantel that still feels layered and intentional. A few well-chosen pieces—a wood mirror, glass vases with dogwood stems, a lively locust garland, and a couple of textured pillows—create a calm, coastal-inspired look that works through summer and beyond.
