I have three little nephews on my side of the family, and they are such a joy. This past weekend we traveled to Atlanta to celebrate Mister A’s 2nd birthday. My sister-in-law planned an adorable barnyard-themed party filled with charming details and handmade touches. The Décor
A few weeks before the party, my sister-in-law and I discussed the details and I offered to make a paper banner to match the barnyard theme. Using a Silhouette Cameo, I cut out a string of sweet baby barnyard animals from cardstock. The banner was simple to assemble and added a playful focal point to the party space. If you’re planning a DIY party craft, cardstock and a cutting machine make a fast, professional-looking result.
Tip: When gluing layered cardstock pieces, press them flat under a heavy, even object while the glue dries. This prevents curling and keeps the shapes crisp.
I also cut an adorable barn silhouette from cardstock to accent a burlap wreath that hung nearby. The wreath and the banner contributed to a cohesive, handmade look that reinforced the barnyard theme without feeling overdone.
One of my favorite touches was the cow-print and red gingham bunting across the mantel. The mix of patterns—cow spots, gingham checks, and rustic burlap—created a lively, child-friendly atmosphere that felt festive and perfectly on theme.
Party favors were presented as tiny farm scenes: animal toys nestled on crinkled paper “hay” and wrapped neatly for guests to take home. Small, themed favors like this are an easy way to extend the experience beyond the party itself.
She also picked up colorful farm animal balloons and stickers to scatter around the room, which added movement and whimsy—an easy and affordable way to brighten the party space.
Every detail, from the banners to the balloons, worked together to create a cohesive barnyard birthday atmosphere that felt cheerful and homey.
The Food
Food at the party matched the barnyard concept in both presentation and flavor. A strip of red gingham fabric ran down the center of the table over a white tablecloth, creating a classic, festive backdrop for the spread. The menu included farm-friendly favorites: butterscotch “haystacks,” deviled eggs, pigs in a blanket, cheddar bunny-shaped crackers, and chicken nuggets—kid-approved and easy to serve.
We made the butterscotch haystacks the morning of the party and ended up nibbling on them all day—delicious! Simple, themed snacks like these make a party feel curated without requiring elaborate recipes.
Cupcakes were topped with handcrafted fondant barnyard figures made by a friend—an easy way to elevate simple baked goods into themed desserts. And no barn-themed party would be complete without a vegetable patch display, arranged to look like a tiny garden full of healthy options.
Simple accents reinforced the theme: mason jars tied with gingham ribbon held utensils, red paper plates complemented cow-print napkins, and small label cards identified each food item. These little details make setup feel intentional and polished.
