Candlelit Christmas Home Tour: Festive Decor Inspiration

The soft glow of candlelight at Christmas is simply magical. There’s nothing quite like sitting in a quiet room during the holiday season with all the lights dimmed, the tree softly illuminated, and a warm garland casting a gentle light across the space. Those small points of light invite you to pause, breathe, and appreciate the peaceful side of the season.

After the busy days of decorating and preparing for the holidays, I always find the candlelit moments particularly restorative. They remind me of the true calm the season can bring and encourage me to slow down and enjoy the atmosphere I worked to create. The hush and the glow together make everything feel more meaningful.

I accepted the challenge of decorating the house using only string lights and candles, and it turned out to be one of my favorite looks. When everything is bathed in that soft, warm light, the home takes on a calm, storybook quality. It’s a wonderful way to close out the holiday decorating posts: pour a hot drink, curl up, and enjoy the tour of homes on the route.

I’ll be quiet now so you can wander through the rest of the tour in peace. Enjoy! 😉

I love to display our nativity scene in the entryway so it’s one of the first things guests see. It holds a special place in my heart because it reflects the true meaning of the season. The challenge: a curious two-year-old who finds small figurines irresistible.

This year I found a simple solution that keeps the nativity visible and out of reach: I elevated the scene on a shallow box and placed garland in front as a subtle barrier. It still looks beautiful in the entry, and so far she only stops to point and whisper “Baby Jesus” in her tiny voice. I also bought her a small, toddler-safe nativity set she can handle, so she has something of her own to play with.

My “O Holy Night” pallet sign sits beneath the gallery wall in the entry, and I expect I’ll return it to that spot every year until the room is completely renovated. It fits this corner perfectly and remains one of my favorite DIY projects—simple, meaningful, and timeless.

I added a new piece of artwork to a corner of the living room that reflects my approach to holiday decorating: think ahead to winter rather than limiting decor strictly to December. This snow scene with a red barn feels at home through the colder months and ties the room together while the candlelight and greenery set the mood.

One of my recent favorite finds is a turquoise baby Jesus ornament from a local shop—an unexpected pop of color that fits perfectly on my tree. Pieces like this add personality and a touch of joy to the overall scheme of lights, garlands, and handmade accents.

Thank you for joining me on this Christmas Nights Home Tour. I loved sharing the little details—the glow of the lights, the nativity in the entry, the handmade sign, and cozy vignettes—and I hope you found inspiration to create your own peaceful, candlelit holiday moments.
