How to Make a Spring Peony Wreath: DIY Tutorial

This DIY spring wreath with lamb’s ear and peonies is one of the easiest seasonal crafts you can make. It adds an instant pop of color and texture to a front door or mantel.

Hi friends! I’m thrilled to bring pink back into my home decor this spring. Pink is one of my favorite colors for brightening neutrals and pairing beautifully with turquoise accents. For this project I combined vibrant pink peonies with soft green lamb’s ear to create a simple, stylish wreath that I reach for every spring.

Spring Front Door Decorating Ideas

I first made a similar wreath a few years ago and it has become a seasonal staple. This year I had plenty of lamb’s ear on hand after using it on my holiday tree, so I paired it with bright coral peonies and a few small filler blooms for a fresh spring look. The combination of the fuzzy lamb’s ear leaves and lush peony blooms creates a lovely contrast that reads both soft and vibrant.

This wreath is forgiving and fast to assemble, which makes it perfect for beginners. I prefer lamb’s ear stems from a craft store because the leaves are full and soft, but other lamb’s ear stems or similar textured greenery will work well too. The finished wreath looks great on a front door but is equally beautiful on a wall or mantel.

My original wreath included a small “welcome” sign that I loved, so I kept that piece to reuse in my home. For this updated version I focused on balancing the lamb’s ear and peonies so the composition felt full but not crowded. I recorded the process to remind myself how quick and easy it is — it’s really just cutting stems, tucking them into a grapevine base, and securing with a little hot glue.

Supplies for DIY Spring Wreath

  • Grapevine wreath base (I used an 18″ wreath)
  • Lamb’s ear stems — approximately 5–6 stems, depending on fullness desired
  • Coral or pink peony blooms — 5–6 stems
  • Mini assorted pink filler blooms to fill gaps
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Floral wire cutter or wire snips

There is a short video tutorial showing the step-by-step process and how the wreath comes together. Watching the video makes it easy to see placement, layering, and final adjustments if you prefer a visual guide.

Directions to Make Your Simple Spring Wreath

The process is truly easy — a few simple steps and you’ll have a wreath ready to display.

1. Cut the stems and layer them into the wreath

Trim floral stems to a manageable length with your floral wire cutter. Start layering the greenery and flowers into the grapevine base.

First layer: Use lamb’s ear as the foundation. Imagine a line down the center of the wreath and arrange lamb’s ear along one side, tucking stems into the grapevine. Leave a few gaps for the peonies so the greenery reads airy rather than solid.

Second layer: Add the peony blooms next. Try arranging five to six blooms until the balance looks right — I started with five but added a sixth for better visual weight.

Third layer: Fill remaining spaces with smaller filler blooms to soften edges and create a cohesive composition.

2. Secure everything with hot glue

After arranging the stems where you like them, use hot glue to secure blooms and greenery to the grapevine base. Apply glue to stems or the wreath where needed and press firmly until set. Keep glue minimal and tidy for a natural look.

Once the glue has cooled and stems are secure, trim any visible stem ends and adjust leaves or blooms for the final styling. That’s it — your wreath is finished and ready to hang.

Spring Front Entryway Decor

I hung mine on the front door to enjoy all spring long, but I later brought it indoors to display on a mantel where it is out of reach of little hands. It’s remained a favorite seasonal piece across several homes because it’s simple to refresh, lightweight, and versatile.
