Refreshing Summer Gift Ideas Everyone Will Love

I’m obsessed with all things citrus: lemon, tangerine, lime, grapefruit, orange. If it’s citrus, I’ll take it—especially for summer projects and seasonal gifts.

When I started thinking about end-of-year gifts for my daughter’s preschool teachers, a stainless steel cup with a monogram and a small lemon vinyl decal seemed perfect: practical, reusable, and delightfully summery. I’ve been transitioning away from plastic, so stainless steel felt like the right choice for a thoughtful, eco-friendly present.

What I Used

I picked up stainless steel cups (Starbucks carries similar tumblers, and they’re widely available online). For the monograms I used my Silhouette cutting machine and the Monogram KK font to create the initials. The lemon decal came from a design in the Silhouette Design Store, and I cut it in two shades of yellow to give it some dimension.

Design and Cutting Tips

For monograms on a curved surface, avoid overlapping initials. I placed the letters close together but not touching, so the vinyl would lay flat and avoid bubbling. Overlapped vinyl on a cylindrical surface tends to lift or create uneven spots, so keep each layer separate when working on rounded items.

Cut the outer shape of the lemon in a darker yellow and the interior in a lighter yellow. This two-tone approach creates a subtle, professional look. Use quality outdoor vinyl for durability, especially on items that will be washed or handled frequently.

How I Applied the Vinyl

I applied transfer tape over the monogram, removed the backing, and then positioned the letters on the cup—starting from the center and smoothing outward to the sides. For a curved surface, anchor the middle first and work toward the edges, pressing down firmly to ensure good adhesion.

You might notice small variations in where the transfer tape rests above different letters—the tape doesn’t have to be perfectly even. Once the tape is removed, those tiny alignment differences are hardly noticeable. For the lemon, I applied the outer shape first with transfer tape, then aligned and applied the inner piece so they sit together as a single decal.

Finishing Touches and Presentation

To finish the gift, I created printable tags that say “Have a Refreshing Summer” and tied them on with a raffia bow for a simple, charming look. The tags are sized to fit the cups and give that polished, handmade feel without taking much time. Add a small surprise inside—like a packet of herbal tea or a little treat—and you have a complete, thoughtful gift.
